I can't answer for him, but from my perspective, the "must win," as far as post-season thoughts go, was at Oklahoma. I can almost forgive TT based on the timing of Staiger's decision, but OU was an honest test. Some teams backed into a corner will bite. Some will wither. Ours withered.
In order to steal a winning record in the Big 12, we need to do no worse than 8-3 over the next eleven games. Our away games: Kansas, Mizzou, K-State, Baylor, and Colorado are all significantly more difficult than a depleted Oklahoma. That's five losses right there. Even if we get on a roll at home, I'm pretty sure the OU game was our last shot to show something.
I'm not saying to give up - I'll be happy for any win in the next three weeks, but the nails in the post-season coffin have been nailed and sealed. We've lost to great teams. We've lost to horrible teams. We've only won complete mismatches, never rising above our station. This just isn't an interesting year for basketball.
Needless to say, I'm disappointed.
IMO, there have been a couple...
UNI - return home after a disappointing (and should-have-won) game against Northwestern
And I know that's very early to have a turning point game, but it really told us a lot about this team.
Texas Tech - lost to a great Texas team via a great effort, mediocre effort against NU but still win, sitting at 1-1 with KU coming up next and needing momentum
IowaSTATECyclone also mentioned Oklahoma - and I sort of agree. Don't know why I blocked that out of my mind.
There is still a chance the light comes on for this team. Its slim, but its there. I don't think it will happen, but you never know. If the 2005 team can start 0-5 and turn it around, this team has the talent to do it also.
Talent? Yes
Internal fortitude? Questionable
And I think the road ahead this year is far, far tougher than the road that '05 team faced down the stretch.
Absolutlely.
Fred Hoiberg, Dedric Willoughby, Fizer, Hornacek (to name a few) all had that fire in the belly - that "I'll do anything I can to win this game" attitude.
I've seen the same attitude from Gilstrap at times, I think he can really step up and carry the team: if he's healthy and if they are still in the game.
My bigger concern is the effort and energy from the start of the game, and avoiding dry spells that get us in a 21 pt hole we can't get out of.
I can't agree with you. The 2005 team had much better back court play than this team. I hope I'm wrong.

Honestly, even though that would be an ugly train wreck of a game, I wouldn't be able to turn my eyes away.
Atleast one person from Colorado would get boxed out on the boards. Could be good or bad - Either we are way ahead OR way behind!!
On that note.... CU 75 - ISU 68
The rest of the season is going to be ugly regardless of this one game but this will throw the ISU fan base into an apocalypse type meltdown. It will be epic and fire will rain down from the sky. GMAC's prophecy will be fulfilled and ISU basketball will suffer devestation that it has never seen before.
Sorry.... I saw the movie Legion the other night and it sadly made me think of ISU basketball. :sad:
I don't think that will happen, but there is a small chance just because we have the talent on the court.
Which is why I'm not completely giving up on this season before we know the postseason is out of the question.
I don't know. If I am not mistaken, they ended their 5 game skid with a win over #23 OU team at Hilton....followed that up with a win in Austin over #20 Texas, and in a few weeks went to Lawrence and beat #2 Kansas.

Might be a little higher scoring, but that was my preseason prediction for this game.
