CPR locked out by Mangino

If Randy Peterson were a better writer there'd have been no question about the tone and intent of Rhoad's comments. Instead we all had a moment's doubt on reading those lines.

I will venture to guess that nobody literally thought Rhoads was locked out of the room. Only you would try to correct us all on that.

Ummm...yeah. Look one post above mine, for someone saying the same thing as I did. And if you really feel a need to attack me, please feel free to do it via PM.

Im guessing he does to a degree. There is no way hes completely oblivious. However, I think some hands off **** is appropriate here.

Plausable deniability. This way he doesn't have to answer questions about it and keep a lot of mystery there until game time.

Great strategy. You hire the right man for the job, then trust him to do that job. I think ISU will move the ball and score points with Mangino running things. I expect to see drastic improvement this year.

Watched the whole interview through the other link on cyclones.com. Good interview. Looking at the depth chart alone should say that ISU has to be led by the offense this year, regardless of the huge improvement at OC. We have all 11 starters back on O and should have an experience laden offense while the same cannot be said for the defense. That defensive depth chart for the spring is a little scary.

Is this all eleven guys that were slated to start the first game because I am pretty sure ISU had nearly 20 guys actually start a game?

I'd be fine if Magino was the only one who knew how to run our offense and made all the calls. Like a co-headcoach.

I heard Wally and Mangino reversed the doorknob and lock CPR in his office a lot of the time. Also, they give him wedgies.

Dude, have you seen MM's BMI? I'd want to make sure at least one other coach was ready to take over. You know what watching a Cyclone game can do to a heart, right? Imagine what it will do to Mangino's.

You guys do recognize hyberbole, right? Metaphor? Or, "coachspeak"? CPR isn't literally, actually "locked out" of the meeting rooms. He just trusts Mangino to get it right, so he can turn his attentions elsewhere.

Whew, thanks for clearing that up for us. Don't know what I'd do without you guiding us through the intertubes.

I'm still sticking to my initial image of Rhoads pounding on the door, "Come on guys, let me in."

Of course CPR will still be involved in the plan. It will still be CPR making the decision on whether to receive or defer; on whether to go for it, punt or fake it; etc. He may be less hands on than he ever has been in the past but he still needs to have an intimate knowledge of the O, the D and STs to make informed decisions on these things. Mangino and Wally will contribute on what they see in a particular opponent in certain situations and what they think they can exploit, but when it comes to the decisions between facets of the team on game day it will be CPR's decision.

Truth be told, I am surprised that the Register didn't take the angle of animosity on the coaching staff - Rhoads locked out, etc. They are always trying to manufacture a story.

Rhoads should have say in only a couple things on offense: forth down calls, and situations at the end of each half.
