Court Storming

Yes, of course the fan taunted Flip. Wouldn't you?

Decades of recruiting shenanigans and favoritism from the conference, NCAA, and the referees, and you get a chance to not only win but rub it in?

Oh yeah. I'm taunting.

Things don't happen in a vacuum.

Flip lost, couldn't take it, tried to trip the fan, hurt himself, and then cried like a p&ssy.

Guy's a *****.

Duke and Flip earned every single part of this, as did their crybaby coach.

Imagine sticking up for Duke or anyone associated with them.
Damn, you're like a middle aged man, right?

I don't see how the player is to blame. He is on the court, where he is supposed to be. The game ends and he makes his way towards his bench. He should be allowed to walk without expecting a random person to run through him.
You’re correct… he should be able to walk through to his bench without expecting that. The fact is though that he couldn’t because the wake fans were running on the court (WF’s admin staffs fault correct?). With that being said, that doesn’t mean he can’t make his way off the court and avoid contact does it? AS WELL that doesn’t mean that the students shouldn’t run into the players should it? There’s multiple parties at fault here.

I agree with most of this, but the students on the court share the blame too in addition to WF admin/security. Regardless of someone's feelings about court stormings, you can't go on the court before the game is over, that's just basic common sense.

Correct, the expectation is students should not be on the court running into players. How does the player hold any fault when that happens?

Yes - absolutely!

Which is made clear from this shot from the end of the game. With time still on the clock there are Wake students running onto the court, with some nearly to the free throw line.

The Duke player has no time to try and get across the court to his bench. The fact that security couldn't keep students off the court till even the final horn shows the Wake administration was not prepared.

If security is able to buy 5 seconds, all the Duke players can get to their bench and this isn't an issue.

You can see a Duke player at the FT line running towards the bench because he has brain and self awareness. Then you also see Filipowski strolling in the park like a dumbass. There is no way he didn’t know the court storming was coming and then he chose to walk. I am sure a player with his athleticism could’ve easily avoided the fans if he even has a tiny bit of urgency to start moving in the moment when this pic was taken.

And lol at people bringing up oh no the fan taunted Kyle. He is that mentally weak that some jackass fan can get into his head that much?

I imagine a few opinions would change if one of our players got injured in this situation. But since it's Duke, flame away I guess
The "injured" player will have a miraculous recovery and play the next game, just like CC. Please, the WF crowd only hurt his feelings. Totally manufactured situation. Somehow all the contact in the game with other athletes rather than some random student doesn't result in injury.

But it's not a both-and. You are putting the onus on the player to react to an unpredictable behavior of someone running at them.
Not completely, no… the person wasn’t running directly at him. But the person most definitely could’ve avoid contact too. Right? I put part of the blame on the admin for letting the fans storm so quickly, I also put part of the blame on the student who got tangled up with flip and I put part of the blame on the player too.

This. No one knows anyone's mind set here. I'm confident no one intended harm. The school deserves blame here, and that's it. Horrible control. Wakes coach said as much.

Agreed, but of those three groups, only the player is doing what he's supposed to be doing. He deserves some blame for not being aware and getting off the court more quickly, but less blame than the students that are on the court before the game is over, or the admin/security who apparently did absolutely nothing.

My favorite part about the whole thing is that Scheyer made one of his patented Scheyer Face when he ran out on the court and grabbed his player.

If any of you are too young to remember just google Scheyer Face and enjoy…

This is correct during a typical game. But when you know a court storm is coming then a person with common sense would have different expectations. Kyle seems to be the only player without common sense in that moment.

I hate court storms because every time one happens people talk about it for days. Other than that, I couldn't possibly care less. I'll never be involved in one as a player or a fan.

I think part of the problem is it's Duke and people hate Duke, someone else mentioned it but I highly doubt if it was BRE or Ward that got taken out by a BYU fan we're saying "oh well, guess Rob should have ran off the court faster"
Exactly. If this happened in a game with Wyoming vs New Mexico St, no one would give a ****. It's Duke, people hate Duke, myself included, but to put blame on Filipowski is wrong, IMO.
