absolutely! I can most definitely say though if it were ISUs security and we’re in that situation, our security isn’t stopping a bunch of students (well). A lot of them are older folks who do this as a part time gig. I can’t speak for WF’s though.
He clearly sticks his leg out for a trip and also tries to push the fan.
That is obvious.
He's supposed to be an elite athlete.
Not only do students not care about fines, but more importantly Athletic Departments don't care about fines. They are willing to eat (in the case of SEC schools) $100k because they know students love to do it and the court storming will be shown on SportCenter.
Athletic Departments could EASILY solve the problem with proper barriers and courtside security. It would be a lot cheaper to hire 10 court side security folks, than pay $100k!!
Hell, college sports is moving to make football players employees, just work into their CBA that the OL & DL have to provide security at MBB/WBB games for an extra $10k a year.

Our security can absolutely do what is necessary, and has before.
Security doesn't have to stop the rush. Just slow it and create a barrier around the opposing team.
And honestly trying to fully stop court rushes could create as many problems as it solves. More potential for injury for security staff trying to fully stop a court rush, or if you take more measures to pen the fans in you could create risks of crowd injuries (or worse in the case of a crowd crush situation)
The WF arena has the students basically on the backs of the photographers sitting on the baseline, whereas Hilton there's a cushion of empty space. I think Hilton is set up to better handle this kind of situation for sure.
Another compounding factor in this situation: the visitors bench at Wake is at the same end of the court as the student section. That means that in a court storm situation, visiting players on the court are forced to go against the flow of fans coming onto the court. That just increases the chances of incidents like this.

And they’ve added the railing in front of the student section. There are engineered controls in place no doubt that make it better. The security we sit by though most definitely is not stopping students if they were to storm the court.
This is slow motion bias, if you watch the whole thing you can see him take three steps and they're all generally the same, not two normal steps and then a longer step to try to trip someone.
They also don't mind it because some donor who is a little looser with their money after a big win will often step up and front the cost of the fine.
I'm sure he's been involved in a lot of court storms, he takes them very seriously.
Wasn't the student section @ Hilton pushed back a while ago for just such a situation? Planning ahead works.
I don't remember but it makes sense, at the WF arena there wouldn't be any space where any security people could be in front of the students before the game was over without being on the court themselves.
It’s difficult to blame Duke players or coaches in this case when there were students on the floor with time remaining.
