I just recently upgraded to a Droid phone on U.S. Cellular (HTC Desire) and am checking out the market. I've got a few apps already, but any suggestions as to what I should get? What have you downloaded that you like? What apps do you use most frequently?

There's a music player app called doubleTwist that will sync with your iTunes.
PowerAMP is also a good music player, tons of options.
ESPN Scorecenter
Rongdroid - lets you edit and create ringtones out of any song on your phone.
Google Shopper is pretty cool.

I assume you already have these but just in case: facebook, twitter, youtube, pandora.

Not really an app but the best one I've found is Launcher Pro Plus. Allowed me to have 7 screens, resize widgets, etc

As far as apps

Pandora
Barcode Scanner
Apps Organizer-Cleans up your screen and allows you to create folders
Beautiful widgets
Extended Controls
Handcent SMS-Don't use this much since I'm trying to get all my friends on Google Talk instead since it's free.
ONTheFly
Opera Mobile browser
Picassa Tool
Shopping List
Slingplayer-Only if you have a slingbox of course
Tikl
tweetdeck-checks for twitter and facebook updates as often as you like.
where's my droid

Tasker-Allows you to do a ton of things. For example when I plug in my headphones the audio goes up and when I unplug it goes down. This one is a little complicated but once you get it working..

Mileage
Dropbox
Audio Manager

Apps Organizer is one of my favorites on this list. For example I have a folder called "Music" in that I have FM Radio, iheartradio, last.fm, listen, Shazam, slacker, and pandora.

Another cool app that you don't put on your phone but on your PC's browser is Fox to phone and chrome to phone. You can just hit a button on your browser and it will send that page to your phone. It's surprising how often I've used this.

A few apps I like on my EVO...

Xscope Browser
Handsent SMS - highly customizable.
Scoremobile - I prefter its interface vs. other sports score apps.
Google Reader - if you are into RSS feeds
VPlayer Beta - good video player if you watch videos our phone (.avi)
Root Explorer - if your phone is rooted.
Where - find bars, entertainment, gas prices etc
Weather Bug - I just liked it better than the Weather Channel.
Kindle - if you like to read books.
Robot Defense - a cool tower defense game if you like those.

Kik messenger is cool. Completely instant texting. Not many people have it though. Cool concept.

evernote-for taking notes of things on the fly
an appkiller to save battery
steamy window- just a cool app to show off to people
kreac calculator- scientific calculator

I'm also using the Launcher Pro app. I like it a lot better than any of the other skins/GUIs out there.

Another vote for Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons.

If you are a gamer, try snesoid, nesoid, gensoid, etc. Lets you play old ROMs on your phone.

Shop Savy - a barcode scanner great for checking prices on items.

Google goggles - google search with you camera.

desktop visualizer - allows you to make your own icons. works great with launcher pro plus which allows you to resize your icons

Gas Buddy
The Weather Channel

And for interesting games I've been playing Nintaii and Unblock Me a lot lately.

Enjoy your new phone!

i personally like the original Angry Birds better than Seasons..
also:
espn bowl bound
bloons
doodlejump
droid fit
foursquare
flood it
ochocinco app
ron burgundy sound board
paper toss
usa today
traffic rush
and tip calculator

hope you enjoy your droid!

For those Sprint users with a spotty signal, check out Roam Control. Let's you force roaming on your phone. Requires a rooted phone. May work with other carriers too. Send me a PM and I can offer a cyclone discount.

Wifi tether is also great.

I have owned a droid for about 5 months now... I have thought about rooting it but still haven't. How hard is it to root? and do you truly feel it is beneficial to root??
