Wireless tethering, but you usually have to root the phone to do that.

I have owned a droid for about 5 months now... I have thought about rooting it but still haven't. How hard is it to root? and do you truly feel it is beneficial to root??

I don't recommend rooting your phone unless you know what you are doing. It is simple enough to do, but it will void your warranty (there ARE ways to unroot phones and return them to factory default, though).

If you want to use your phone like a modem and don't mind plugging your phone into your computer via USB (your charger will work), than you can download PDAnet which will allow you to use your phone's internet service on your laptop or other devices. This is really handy in airports, cars, trains, or other places that you might otherwise have to pay for their wireless. NOTE: You also have to download the pdanet drivers onto the computer you want to plug your phone into beforehand for it to work.
