COLUMN: Why Bill Self should be the Big 12 CotY

Haven't even read the article because I don't even need any laid out reasoning. Totally agree.... enough said.

Honorable Mention: Tubby

It's gotta be Self. There are other coaches who have done a nice job, but you give it to the guy who, once again, navigated his way to an outright championship in the toughest conference.

Tubby is a no brainer, he should pry be national coach of the year. Tech was a dumpster fire, he replaced something like 10 scholarships in 2 years and has them in the tourney.

Self winning the Big 12 with a team that was projected to win the Big 12 by basically everyone? I'd agree that Tubby Smith taking Tech to the NCAA tournament is a bigger accomplishment and more deserving.

Tubby is a great story... But until someone wins the Big 12 outright from Kansas, I can think of 12 straight reasons why Self is coach of the year.

I think it probably took a hell of a lot more work as a coach getting Tech turned around. I'd give it to Tubby.

As much as it pains me to say it, I completely agree.

Tubby with a good runner-up spot. Also impressed with what Smart has done at Texas this year. And Huggins continues to get his teams to perform.

We have a lot of really good coaches in this league.

Definitely would give it to Self. Can't believe they are likely to finish 15-3 in this conference. Tubby would be runner up. As far as national coach of the year, I think I would go with Tom Crean as of now.

I don't know about that. I think it probably took a ton of work getting any team to 15-3 in the Big 12 this year. That's pretty incredible.

This is exactly the year you make Self CotY.

If I could pick one roster to coach right now it would be OU, and it's not like Kruger is some horrible coach or OU has done horrible.

Self deserves it, as he does most seasons. Huggins would be a worthy choice also.

Self should be coach of the year but saying you would take Elijah Johnson over Mason, Selden or Graham is crazy talk. Mason is a sure fire second team all big 12 for the second year in a row and Selden will at least be 3rd team after getting honorable mention the past two years. johnsons best year was his senior year averaging 10 and 4 and he was only honorable mention All Big 12.

I think you are selling their roster short. They still have the most talented team in the league but he should get it bc this is one of the most competitive years I can remeber and he won it outright

Tubby has done more with less. Self has done more with more. Either are deserving, but I'd give Tubby the nod this year. Despite that, I'd take Self in a heartbeat.

Think it's quite a stretch to call this the best coaching job of his career at KU. He has been unable to get any meaningful contribution from 2 elite recruits and has a lot of talented upper classmen on the roster.

COY is reasonable, though I'd give it Huggins or Tubby. Tubby has revived a cellar dweller, and Huggins has once again performed miracles for the amount of talent he has.

I know they had good wins this year, in a tough conference, and they were bottom last year, but I just find it odd to give the coy to the 7th place team, that had a losing record in the conference.

Just two seasons ago he had 6 wins in conference, only two less than this year.
