Coaching Search Rumors - Consolidated Thread

Fritz and Fleck are my top two with Fritz the front runner.

I think Fleck would be out in a couple years if he has some success. I would just question Fleck on types of coordinators he would bring in, he said himself he's not the x's and o's type of guy. Would be a solid recruiter which we need badly.

Fritz is pretty established head coach, x's and o's type of guy. Adjusts to the players on offensive schemes. Would have as solid foot in the door for JUCO recruiting, and I probably some solid ties with Texas. I could see him sticking around for a while too, possibly retiring from here.

I am slowly coming around to Fleck. I am intrigued with Fritz too. I hope Pollard has at least spoke with all interested candidates. I am speaking of guys like Frost, Alford etc...whether or not we feel they could do the job, I hope they had a chance to try and sell themselves to the AD.

Fleck could bring his current t staff over and I wouldn't be too upset. Obviously a question if they would fare in the Big12
I don't know much about his OC other than he coached Joe Flacco and Delaware, but he's had a solid couple years with West Mich so far.
I like his DC, had some solid seasons with Rutgers.
Just kind of assuming, because he's so young, that he wouldn't have all the coaching ties as the other candidates

What have the last 4 ISU coaches done with spread offenses?

We can't run a triple option because that's what Walden ran unsuccessfully. We can't run a spread offense because that's what CPR ran unsuccessfully. We can't run a "pro-style" offense because that's what D-Mac ran unsuccessfully. Guess that leaves us with the wishbone. - Cyclone Fanatic logic

The weird thing in hiring for a tough job like Iowa State is unless a Bill Snyder or John Wooden wants the job, there will never be a "perfect" candidate who can recruit well and coach well and won't leave and is a generally good guy. We can all criticize performance and personal integrity but every coach will have significant flaws, for lack of a better term, in their ability to build this program and then keep it at a high level.

Are we gonna get a good coach or not? We just suck at this and we can't suck on this one.

First off. For some reason I pulled up Eastern Michigan and not Western for some reason..so I'll correct that. Fail? Dude you can't be serious...he brought in the highest rated recruiting class in MAC history. They are basically a directional school. PJ Fleck can recruit. I have no idea if he's the coach for us but there is zero doubt he can recruit well.

Edit...meant eastern Michigan in regards to bowl appearances.

Double down post.
