Coaching Search Rumors - Consolidated Thread

Football Scoop says Matt Campbell is a "strong candidate" for the Mizzou job and would accept if offered.

This is real bad for ISU because everyone i know in the Mizzou AD said they were going after Fuente as their number one option. So he must have said no already and they are going after options 2 and 3. Leath needs to hire somebody in the next week before even more jobs become available next Sunday.

Guys...what is the single biggest factor that we as ISU fball fans complain about 365 days a year? Recruiting! How many poster on here complain and gripe every time we get that commit over South Dakota etc.. PJ Fleck might be the best recruiter in college football for god sakes and some here think we can do better? Lol. TALENT WINS.

100% disagree - if that were the case then Texas, Florida, Florida St would never lose....

You need talent, but, more importantly you need the ability to coach a player to perform beyond his current level. Hate using EiU for everything but, Iowa has recruited both types of players. Usually when they've got a 4-5 star OL they end up washing out. They have been ultra competitive with 2-3 star OL recruits and coach them to perform better.

ISU needs a coach that can evaluate good players they can mold into above good players. I think that has been my biggest disappointment during the Rhoads regime - that the OL and DL never really became a strength. Finally this year, our lines to me are headed in the right direction.

So Fuente is ours? All makes sense now.

I'm on the Fleck bandwagon. His idea of coordinators would be something I would ask about though.

Some of the hotter candidates will probably try and delay things until next week, when more jobs are going to open up

I'd say he's done ok coaching. They were 1-11 and also historically a awful program...all he's done is bring in top 30 recruiting classes at Western Michigan and had winning seasons and a bowl appearance. Just think what he might do at a P5 school with actual facilities and in a major conf.
WMU has been to 6 bowls and on their way to their 7th.
They also have a career record of 535–434–24, I just wanted to point out that that they aren't an abysmal program.

Fuente i think ends up at one of the USC's. Which means Mizzou, Illinois, and that group of schools get that Matt Campbell, Willie Fritz group, which pushes us down another notch to the guy at Buffalo or some position coach.

So losing to teams way better than you is excuses?
Yes, there were a few posters of the PR fanclub that loved that defense.
Welcome to Stormin, an adamant Rhoads supporter just 7 days ago, he is not bound by logic or reason. If he thinks it supports his stance he will contradict himself in the same sentence.

Wow is this post so full of fail. Western Michigan is not a historically bad program. They have been to bowl games before Fleck was there. The best recruiting class they have had under Fleck was #71 overall. They are currently ranked 55, but they will drop once everyone commits come signing day in February. I have no idea where you get this top 30 class b.s .

First off. For some reason I pulled up Eastern Michigan and not Western for some reason..so I'll correct that. Fail? Dude you can't be serious...he brought in the highest rated recruiting class in MAC history. They are basically a directional school. PJ Fleck can recruit. I have no idea if he's the coach for us but there is zero doubt he can recruit well.

Edit...meant eastern Michigan in regards to bowl appearances.

Uh, yeah dude, I am serious. Your post was full of fail. I wasn't saying Fleck can't recruit, I was saying you have no idea what you are talking about. That class was not top 30. It was not top 50. It averaged out at #61 with all the recruiting services averages put together. The highest ranking being #56 by Scout. The program is not historically bad either. I was talking about what you said, which was full of fail dude.

I think all these guys can coach. I am surprised Matt Wells isn't getting more love. Looking at their commits they recruit Florida, California and Texas. Luke obviously knows ISU.

I would be in favor of Fritz, Monken, Wells, Fleck or Campbell.

Hopefully, they see this as a chance to rebrand a bit, and have a uniform redesign among other small things. We're due for an upgrade.

Glad you touched on uniforms. Generally, I think people underestimate how uniforms can influence recruiting. HS kids love the alternate looks and if the new coach wants to change it up we should let him.

BREAKING: Triple option offense reporting an assault at the hands of superior recruits.

CW just retweeted something from a Big 12 reporter saying Jamie was on her flight to Detroit... Fleck is in the works?

Tom Herman has an agreement in principal with South Carolina. That's all but final. FYI
