Coaching Search Rumors - Consolidated Thread

He is currently my first choice as well. Upside is great. The basement is well we know what the basement is.

He is a position coach, so my prediction would hold true.

Why would he be different than Rhoads though?

I believe the next coach has to be a proven winner. I don't care about what offense or defense he brings, but he has to have won at all levels he has coached. No more experiments and on the job learning- rhoads screwed up with OC turnover and horrible hires at that position.

If I were Tom Herman and Maryland and South Carolina both offered me the same $$$, I'm pretty sure I'd take Maryland.

I dunno. SEC East vs. bottom feeder in the B1G East, I probably pick the recruiting territory that comes with the SEC.

I would have agreed with you last year, but the SEC East is terrible and Big10 East is getting much better. OSU, UM and MSU is rough, will see how PSU does in a year or two.

Quality of the conference really doesn't play into it for me. I think of Herman of more of a midwestern-type personality and I don't think his schtick would play real well in the south.

Also, I think with the Under Armour money and less competition for it's recruiting base, Maryland is better positioned to take off than SC.

He is an offensive minded coach. In the Big 12 success is based around offense, I don't believe through all of Rhoad's tenure did he surround himself with enough experience on this side, Mangino hire was probably the most but we know how that ended up.... I also like the CW and Blum approach of bring back Loney (was a great cyclone coach under Mac) and huge success at all level....

I may be way off, but the best offensive minds are in the Pros. I think if you had an HC that was a College guy, let's say Hoke for arguments sake, but you bring in Loney as Offensive Line Coach and Sage/Seneca as QB Coach to implement a pro influenced style of football.

This paired with a hard nosed 3-4 defense to me would be a home run. We can become Linebacker University and focus on some big uglies for the DL, just be big guys, let the LB's make plays.

The pro game is not that different from College anymore even the Bears have option plays with Cutler. I would love to have Sage or Seneca doing the QB Recruiting.

I guess I don't know what your prediction is?

Why would any of these guys be different than Rhoads? People are acting like Rhoads took over Alabama and drove it into the ground. We have 3 bowl wins. Not 3 in the last 6 years, 3 in the last forever.

Alford makes the most sense, he was the recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame (national connections) and would not be oblivious to the situation he is walking into at ISU.

Hoke would be a horrible hire, I would have trouble considering my renewal of donation and season tickets with that move.

Alford could be the bridge to bring in Loney, Sage/Seneca. Anybody else will probably have their own staff in mind.

Why? Because he didn't go undefeated at UM? That whole University was a mess during his tenure there.

Tony Alford? Why?

Has he ever even been a coordinator? He coaches running backs, the most simplistic position in all of football.

Because he had more talent than he will get here and will be in a tougher conference. So he couldn't win in a worse conference with more talent. If people wanted CPR gone for Brady Hoke, they need to get their head checked. Just not by Hoke because he plays guys with concussions.

Re: Bob Stitt - Montana

Stitt would be an interesting hire. Definitely out of the box.

I think it's pretty obvious to everyone we need "something different" so I'm fully expecting that we get some DC from some P5 that is a solid family man with some kind of loose tie to ISU/Iowa.

I'd bet the odds of JP hiring another DC is about zero.

I want the guy that's going to go to a traditional powerhouse program in 3-5 years because ISU had unprecedented success under his leadership. I could care less if he had any previous ties with ISU.
