COACHING SEARCH: Campbell up, Fleck down

Still gotta keep Missouri, who is reportedly scheduled to interview Campbell, in the back of your mind.

ISU's best bet, if they want him, is to offer quickly and apply the pressure to accept before he sees other options.

The more he gets to know Missouri, the more chance we have of signing him . . . that program has too much drama about things other than football . . . as a coach, I wouldn't want to go near that situation right now . . .

One more comment about religion in this thread, or others on coaching, equals an automatic 14 day ban, end of story. No exceptions, even for "jokes".

Ban if you wish, but i think our fan base deserves to know exactlt how much this plays into JP's search criteria and if that is even legal at a public university...let alone an AD acting in best interest of our teams.

Meh. Asking what people do on the weekends isn't a forbidden question in interviews. Plus, I'd rather a coach not be getting ripped on hookers and blow the night before a game.

At the end of the day I want a good coach...but not at the expense of a guy who 'wins at any cost'...because that level at ISU is a bowl game.

I'm not prepared to turn Ames, Iowa and Iowa State Univeristy into the U for a shot at the Poulan Weedeater Bowl.

Good to know we're still using the criteria that caused us to pass on Jim Harbaugh because of his naughty language.

We're going to get exactly what we deserve yet again. Honor Instead of Victory.
So your premise is all people with high morals lose?

Obviously he is a great coach but I'm sorry if you cuss in your interview you shouldn't be getting the job. This is coming from someone who has no problem with cussing.
do you suppose he cussed in the post game interview after getting his *** handed to him by OSU?

I might. This is college athletics...not the local boy scout troop. It's a travesty if JP actually makes hiring decisions based on this. I understand hiring someone with strong character and high integrity...we can ill-afford a coach that brings high reputational risk, but there is a lot of room between looking for a guy with a good reputation that will represent our university well and someone that is "guided by faith". As though being a bible beater and a good person are the same thing.

It's not. But requiring you to be "guided by faith is". Huge difference. And there are a lot of people in this world not "guided by faith" that don't do drugs and **** hookers. Again, big difference. How is that so hard for people to understand?

I think High morals and success are pretty uncorrelated.

This.

So are low morals. The point is that Pollard should be hiring the best candidate to run a football program and how faithful that candidate is should not be a factor. It's not even legal.

I don't say this to imply character is not important. Being a good representative of the University/good role model for our players does not mean you need to wear your religious beliefs on you sleeve. That's all I'm saying.

I want someone who will win games. Would Johnny Orr get an interview today? We need someone who can coach and and hire a staff who can recruit legally. Treat the players like men and not preach to them.

I hadn't heard anything about Pollard and religion for the most part before the Prohm hire, and haven't heard much since except on this board. I'm only hearing about it a bunch because you keep posting. You're right that religion shouldn't be a factor in the hires, but I don't see any proof that it is a major factor in any of his hires.

I don't know if it is a major factor or not, but it seems to be more like a straw man argument for the most part given the evidence.
