I don't get the TJ love. Yes, he's a good recruiter and yes he knows a few players. That says nothing about how good of a HC he'll be (which he's never done before - unlike all the other candidates).

Obviously, all of these candidates have question marks. I don't get the love for anyone else on this list, or the hate against Otz. Underwood only has 2 years of head coaching experience. Drew only has 4, and with mixed results. Prohm also only has 4. His results are good, but in a lower tier conference. None of these coaches has demonstrated an ability to recruit P5 conference level talent. It doesn't mean they can't, but it certainly is not a given. At the end of the day, you need players to be successful. None of these coaches excite me at all.

While Otz does not have any HC experience, he has been an assistant and learned under 3 different head coaches at the P5 level. Say what you want about Romar at UW, but he had some pretty good success as a coach save the past few seasons, and obviously Hoiberg is a very good coach. While Otz has not demonstrated that he can be a HC, he has demonstrated he can bring in players to help him be successful. And it seems that more than one coach thought enough of him to make him the top assistant. And I love the system Hoiberg ran. Of the candidates, I think Otz has the best chance of continuing to run a similar system. If he can hire a former HC to his staff to help him the first couple of seasons, it will help his transition to the new role.

Well fans are morons and generally uniformed across the board. Who do you think the AD/Pres should listen to? Fans that really don't know how good of a coach TJ is or how TJ is viewed within the coaching fraternity? I doubt anyone here is on the level required to adequately judge his coaching abilities (and I'm not talking about the records of the teams he's been on, I'm talking actual coaching and his basketball mind) nor is anyone a deep enough part of the CBB coaching fraternity to actually know what TJ's rep is there.

I think this is exactly right, which is why I think it is ridiculous for people to be making hard line statements, which are prevalent on both sides.

That appears to be part of the problem, there is a little bit too much listening going on. Personally, I don't think they should listen to anyone. Just hire the best guy that will keep ISU competitive for a big 12 title.

What was different about the past few seasons for Romar.... hmmmmm

As long as that guy isn't Otz though, right? I hope they are listening to people that have the knowledge and experience to judge how good of coaches these candidates are and also listening to other coaches about what kind of rep they have out there amongst them.

He's not the best guy, IMO, but if they feel that he is and I'm proven wrong, I will be the first to admit that I was wrong. Why are you so butthurt about Otz? Is he your boy blue?

I'm not butthurt about Otz I'm butthurt that you're acting the fool and it's a bad look on a good poster like yourself. Why do you insist on making my butt hurt?

So any descending view point is acting like a fool? GFY buddy. What did I say in this thread that comes even remotely close to acting like a fool.

If that is truly the way you feel then why is every other post of yours complaining about Otz or even Pollard for having the audacity to consider him? Just look at your signature.

One of the primary reasons Fred brought TJ back from Washington was to take over as head coach if/when Fred left for the NBA. This is nothing but a formality even though Jamie did put together a committee just in case they could of snagged a big fish which obviously didn't happen. Following in CFH footsteps could be a curse, hard to emulate or duplicate.

Because we're having a debate on who the next head coach should be. And as Jeremy stated Otz is apparently the favorite, so I'm voicing my opinion. Do you have a problem with it? If so, tell someone who cares. I will support whoever the new coach is, but until that happens I will give my opinion whether you like it or not. mmmkay?

Relax. Whenever I respond to a post of yours you seem to think I'm attacking you in some way. All opinions are welcome but some on here provide their opinion so strongly that they start to get a little ridiculous to many. I was merely pointing out that if you truly want to just let the best candidate play out that is not how you are acting. That is okay. I don't see why you would claim that though when it certainly doesn't appear to be the case.

I'm probably one of the very few, but I kinda don't care. Whoever it is, is going to have a steep learning curve and really, unless it's Coach K, it's really a crap-shoot as to whether they'll be successful or not. I just want it to be over with so the fan base can move on.
