Coach C expects player turnover

I want a team and a coach that is feared and respected by all of their opponents. I got sick and tired about hearing how much all of the other coaches and all of the reporters in the Big 12 thought McCarney was such a great guy. We needed a coach...not a drinking buddy.

That's why LE was so great...he could coach AND he was a drinking buddy!:biggrin9gp:

Expect to see several players to change their current position to fill in gaps the first year.

Great Point! Another characteristic of a great coach is one that gets the players in the best position to maximize their talents. Moving a 2nd or 3rd team TE to DE where he becomes all-conference or moving a smaller 3rd string RB to DB where he becomes all-american for example.

You guys do realize that you can only take 25 players per year. You can take mid-year jucos and transfers and have that count against last years class(as long as last year's class didn't already have 25 recruits). It is going to be very difficult for Chizik to do this because most mid year guys will need to have their decision made in the next week or two. NU will take 3-4 mid year JUCOs again this year(They had a couple of guys not make grades and leave the team from last years class). It is a big advantage for these players to have spring ball and a 1/2 year in the S&C program.

If Chizik runs off a lot of guys, like most are saying here, ISU may only have 75-80 guys on Scholarship next year.

We won 4 games last year. If anyone leaves I don't think there will be people knocking at there door to sign them up.

The cockroaches always run when the light is shined on them! I'm glad he is going to get rid of the dead weight.

Frankly, this will not extend the rebuilding process but rather shorten it. Football is an assignment game...discipline is critical to success. Football is a mental contest where you have to strive to beat your man every play (even if he may have just beaten you on the last play)...discipline is important. Football is a collision sport...discipline is important.

I believe to have a team that is feared and respected that the coach must command the respect of his players...not try to be their best buddy. Bobby Knight is soon to become the winningest college basketball coach ever. Although I don't agree with all of his methods he is certainly a testament to the kind of success you can have with a disciplined approach where your players respect you.

We didn't want or need anyone that leaves!

I couldn't agree more with this. For all the things McCarney did for us, last season's roster is very far from having talent at crucial positions. If they don't want to stay, fine. As cyclone#1 put it, this will accelerate the rebuilding, not otherwise.

With the Holidays fast approaching look for some players to return home and do some soul searching. Some may transfer, redshirts may go else where, so be it. Maybe some of these kids don't fit the Chizik Mold and are better off exiting, frees up a scholarship for some one else who does fit the scheme. Lets face it D-Mac didn't exactly leave the program flushed with talent!

"Chizik Mold"...Yeah Lobo you have a point which leads into a bigger point that all Football Coaches at any level...Needs "Their Players!"

It may take a few years to accomplish this along with the Chizik mold, mantra or mind set or call it whatever you like, but Gene Chizik needs to put his stamp on this football program and reach for the stars and see if he can pull down a big 12 championship.

Here's betting Gene will get it done!:yes4lo:

I'll take that bet;-)

From looking at our roster it appears about 7-8 players have left the program each year for the past 4 years. I think most of them were probably not in the 2-deeps and left to go someplace else for playing time.
