He didn't say it has happened, but sounded like he wouldn't be surprised. After hearing some of the stories about Chizik addressing the players, I wouldn't be surprised either. I think he really rattled some cages when he first met with them. I would hope the players would embrace the new structure and discipline, but I guess his style of coaching isn't for everyone.
 
I just learned from the Rag interview that Chizik's dad was in the Marines. I guess that might explain Chizik's miltaristic style while addressing the players. Interesting.

As strange as this might sound, this player turnover really doesn't concern me. My primary frustration with DM's teams was that IMO they lacked fundamentals and discipline on game day, which played itself out in silly penalties and poor tackling, among other things. I don't know if it was due to a coaching or recruiting problem.

In any case, if ISU hasn't recruited the type of players that are willing to deal with the structure and discipline necessary to take care of these problems, then it is best to part ways and for GC to recruit the players that will work with his system.

It may make for a couple of ugly years right off the bat, but will pay off big time in the long run.
 
As much as I would like to see the football program on the rise from day one, a little extra rebuilding may be better in the long run. It could be much the same as the changes with basketball. Some players may just not be a fit with the new style and system and it may be better for everyone if they move on.

I would love to see all of the current players stay, but if the situation doesn't work for them they need to do what is best. I think that football is going to have a couple of rough years ahead, but I think in the long run, Chizik will get the job done.
 
I would think it would just be human nature to have some players want to leave. I would expect it to happen to some degree. I guess we will find out soon enough and accept that - it is what it is.

The positive is that I don’t really see any major turmoil other than what can be expected when a program changes direction with coaches. Seems like a pretty smooth transaction on the outside looking in. I am looking forward to seeing the end product on the field as we really have not seen a whole lot yet. Although, I do like what I have seen to date.

It would appear that things are in motion and starting to take shape as Coach C starts to put his stamp on things with the ISU football program. :yes4lo: Only time will tell.
 
Run them off like Ron Prince? Use religion on them like Dan Hawkins? Make it a business like Bill Callahan? Times are changin' in the Big 12.
 
That's great that there is a disciplinarian attitude.

It's also kind of funny how when DMAC showed up during the 94-95 school year, the talk was how everyone had to cut their hair and take out their earrings. A few bad apples left the team as a result. Only a few years later I came to expect sloppy @ss play and lots of dumb mistakes from Week 1.

This fresh air is nice.

ISU under Mac consistently ranked very high in least penalties per game. The timing of the penalties usually sucked, but that may have been more due to always being in a close game.
 
With the Holidays fast approaching look for some players to return home and do some soul searching. Some may transfer, redshirts may go else where, so be it. Maybe some of these kids don't fit the Chizik Mold and are better off exiting, frees up a scholarship for some one else who does fit the scheme. Lets face it D-Mac didn't exactly leave the program flushed with talent!
 
I'm sure many friends and family will be checking the biys to see their feelings and you may have alot of "I heard.." comments on here during the long break. If anyone does decide to transfer out, this is perfect timing. Transfer laterally, you lose a year or must redshirt. Transfer down and you play immediately...UNI has pisked up some exceptional FB players in this method.

I sure hope these coaches are scouring the nation for recruits. Anxious to see how the quick first class comes about. Need to establish some in-roads for ISU from their old stompin' grounds. aving a director of football operations as one of the initial hires, indicates this staff will be putting on some miles.
 
The cockroaches always run when the light is shined on them! I'm glad he is going to get rid of the dead weight.

Frankly, this will not extend the rebuilding process but rather shorten it. Football is an assignment game...discipline is critical to success. Football is a mental contest where you have to strive to beat your man every play (even if he may have just beaten you on the last play)...discipline is important. Football is a collision sport...discipline is important.

I want a team and a coach that is feared and respected by all of their opponents. I got sick and tired about hearing how much all of the other coaches and all of the reporters in the Big 12 thought McCarney was such a great guy. We needed a coach...not a drinking buddy.

I believe to have a team that is feared and respected that the coach must command the respect of his players...not try to be their best buddy. Bobby Knight is soon to become the winningest college basketball coach ever. Although I don't agree with all of his methods he is certainly a testament to the kind of success you can have with a disciplined approach where your players respect you.

We didn't want or need anyone that leaves!
 
Keep in mind that someone's not always going to leave the program because they are scared of the coach or they are afraid to work harder. There's numerous players that joined the team solely because of Mac and the staff, and a complete turnaround may give them little reason to stay.
 
Expect to see several players to change their current position to fill in gaps the first year. That is why NE Courtney Grixby and Tierre Green became such wonderful defensive backfield members instead of running backs. Andre Jones of NE was a 5 star rated recruit and only true defensive backfield recruit. Too bad he opened his mouth before that South(land) game and was burned.
