Clayton Custer Transfering

I was hoping he would stick around to provide relief duty during his junior year, and then possibly be a starter his senior year. I can see why he'd want to transfer though, I'm sure there will be plenty of schools looking for a guy like him.

I thought that was a B10 rule. Coaches can also put restrictions on where guys will be released to. I think that's what usually makes it not happen.
 
Too bad. I think he will develop into a solid PG. I fear transfers out will become somewhat common for us again although for a different reason than under McDermott. It is going to come down to issues with playing time. There aren't enough minutes to satisfy a bench full of talented players who had options out of HS.

Snag a transfer who will sit a year (because we probably won't need him next year) and can come in and play in 16-17. Will help re-build a depleted roster.

Wrong. He was so down after the McLemore banked-three game at KU that he went to his high school gym at 1am and shot jumpers with his mom rebounding for the next couple hours. This kid loved Iowa State and Hoiberg. Also remember seeing him walking around Sprint Center last year after we beat KU in the tournament decked out in ISU gear.

Morris is just too damn good. Custer will find a good home. He's a great kid from a great family... and he's talented too. He wants to start and make an impact. I wish him the best.
 
I've heard a lot of people mention potential landing spots on here like Wichita State, Mizzou, Missouri State and UMKC. However, one place not mentioned that immediately came to my mind would be good old Larry boy over at Colorado State. Not only is it not super far from home (1 state away), CFH could put a good word in for him with Larry, an ISU transfer similar to Clayton has seen success there in the past (Wes Eikmeier), but I also consider them a much higher caliber, more competitive school right now than the likes of Missouri State, UMKC and even Mizzou (Mizzou is a dumpster fire bball school right now). Shoot, they should have been in the tourney if it wasn't for them getting jobbed by the selection committee. All said and done, next to Wichita State, I consider Colorado State as being the next best fit.

Regardless, we'll miss you Clayton and we loved you while you were here. Wish you nothing but the best in the future.

Does Hoiberg even really know Larry?

Sending him down to Tim Floyd at UTEP seems more likely to me
 
The Clones have come a long way! Whoda thunk we'd lose a kid of this caliber because there wasn't enuff future opportunity to play. We'll miss him, but it's a nice problem to have.
 
I was looking at ESPN's recruiting page and there are three 4 star or better PG's still unsigned for 2015. Noskowiak, Hyron Edwards and Marshawn Wilson are all out there and 2 reside in Illinois and Wilson is a Minneapolis kid. Wonder if we get involved late with these guys...

Coaches have a say in where you can and can not go. Uthoff had to take one year off off of scholarship to play at Iowa, because it was one of the many schools he was not allowed to transfer to.
 
Not happy with this announcement - like many on here, I thought he'd be able to develop into a solid PG for us. I wish you the best Clayton!!
 
No surprise here. Good kid but looked overmatched when he was on the floor. I think the writing was on the wall pretty soon with him.

Wish him luck. I also think CSU is a likely landing spot. We will see.
 
Best of luck to Clayton. Sucks for everyone involved it didn't work out. I was really hoping to see him play meaningful minutes. I had a gut feeling it would happen, but it still depressing me out today.

Some how Calipari can keep like 20 McDonalds All Americans together. We can't keep our freshman in.

Worried what this could mean for Tsalmpouris and Thomas or the Diallo recruitment.

3 Schollys left to fill. Lets get someone amazing as Custer.

Hate to see Clayton go, but he will do great wherever he goes. Some speculative landing spots I think could be Tulsa and Houston as they recruited him out of high school. Another place I could see is St. Louis, just straight speculation though.

I feel that we will be fine at the PG spot next year and there is no need to bring in a fifth year transfer. Naz is capable of playing a few minutes at PG and I am hopeful that Cooke is more of a combo guard as we've heard. Watching him in CCL this past summer, he really impressed me as a distributor but take that FWIW because its pickup basketball.

I am expecting Monte to go pro after next year, which would leave some pretty big shoes to fill and a lot of immediate playing time available. I think that could be a good recruiting pitch for Malik Monk, even though he is a heavy Arkansas lean.

I was talking about the poster, not Custer...
 
I heard secondhand that he may be considering Wake Forest of all places.

Actually it makes some sense considering Clayton may have a relationship with Danny Manning.
