Why transfer PG when people think Cooke will play PG? Diallo + big + best available for me.
With MM having 1 or 2 more years, it was going to be tough for him to get much PT. Loved his stroke, thought he could have been a solid player. The WSU comments make a lot of sense.

Declaring early for the draft, most likely. He's finishing his sophomore year, has two years left...which is probably why Clayton is transferring.
I'm sorry Clayton is leaving - I hope he finds someplace that fits what he's looking for (playing time, most likely). I wish him the best.
But he flat said he's not even thinking about it this year, he will look at it and decide after next year. No reason to not believe him on that.

Iowa State freshman Clayton Custer has decided to transfer from the men’s basketball program, head coach Fred Hoiberg announced Tuesday.
“I appreciate the work and effort Clayton gave to our program this season,” Hoiberg said. “He has been a great teammate. I’ve enjoyed coaching Clayton and wish him the best in the future. I will do anything I can to assist him as he looks for a new school.”
Custer, a 6-0 guard from Overland Park, Kansas, saw action in 12 games in 2014-15. He averaged 1.1 points in 5.8 minutes while coming off the bench for the Cyclones.
“I truly enjoyed my time at Iowa State,” Custer said. “I was able to build relationships with people I’ll be close to the rest of my life and I will always cherish the moments I had here. Thank you to the Iowa State coaches, my teammates and Cyclone nation for the special opportunity.”

Hallice is the next man at point. It was never going to be Custer once hallice committed.
If Morris leaves after next year that gives us two PG's, plus Cooke is kind of a combo guard but yea I'd be with you on the big + best available thing
What really surprises me about this is that CC was committed to ISU for almost two years before starting his Freshman year. He always seemed to love FH and ISU in general. Thought he would stick it out till MM graduated. Would have been a really good floor general.
I wouldn't expect to see a juco point guard that is good enough to play come here when they know they are getting 10 minutes a game at most.
Not unlike this year. Except next we'll hopefully have Cooke as well.
I don't like seeing kids transfer - but I don't think there's anything to get too upset with on this. We realistically had no backup THIS season with Cooke sitting out. If Clayton couldn't sneak in a few minutes with Monte playing SO much, that's probably a pretty clear sign of his abilities or development.

That's my first choice as well. Either way I'd be surprised if the next PG we get isn't a transfer.
He looked solid when he played. Wasn't there a Big 12 game when he got some extensive second-half minutes?
I had a feeling transfer was a possibility when he wasn't seeing much court time in relevant situations, like he wasn't being groomed as a successor to Monte.
