Chris Allen?

I'm watching the replay right now -right away there was a loose ball that he went half-*** after -a ball that McGee 100% would have had -THAT drives me nuts. I think his nonchalance is killing this team. I'm not saying he has nothing to offer, but he does NOT go 100% like McGee. I can't believe he played 34 minutes. I just don't get it. He's killing us defensively with his nonchalance -eventually Fred will see this... Right????

Poor shot selection at times, but definitely wasnt the reason we lost

I would like to see the stat of how we shot when Allen brought the ball up the floor compared to everyone else. He seemed to force way to many shots. He needs to learn how to pass.

he was literally just chucking up anything and everything, not to mention he missed like 4 layups

If you start a thread about a player and the only commentary you offer up is "He's horrible!" it will be deleted every time. Offer something of substance, and be respectful.

I've complained about Allen forcing shots several times, but may I present a big-picture positive?

FT%: 49-61 .803

Granted, he's at 36% on FGs, but considering how free-throw performance has been problematic for about half of the team, if he can find a way to drive and draw more fouls in exchange for some forced shots — that might make the difference in a few games.

Allen does not hustle for loose balls at all. Totally agree with the poster that said that. And while I agree that missed fee throws and poor rebounding are what cost us this game no sane person can deny that Allen takes very poor shots. This also did not help to our cause tonight. Not saying that we would have won but I can recall at least four times when Allen brought the ball up and took a very difficult contested shot with 15-20 seconds on the shot clock. Without passing once. You will not convince me that we could have not gotten a better look had he actually ran the offense. And I have been underwhelmed by his ball control in traffic.

Yeah free throws were bad, but it was the points in the paint that lost the game for us. We allowed wayyyy to many and we ****ed up way to many easy shots. If points in the paint and free throws go our way, we win by at least ten.

You do make a good point. We did give up far too many easy shots in the paint.

Allen at PG > Scotty at PG. Allen is used to shooting so moving him positions is going to change his play a little but he is still a shooter at heart and is going to want to get his shots. The team has played a lot better since the change and Scotty does a good job off the ball getting the pass then driving and dishing. I am assuming this is why Scotty was originally PG because of his ability to receive a pass, drive, and dish or score. That style is a lot different then bringing the ball up the court and then trying to drive and dish or score. Royce looks good bringing up the ball but the foul trouble will be a problem if he drives too much. I think Allen is doing as good as we can expect. One thing I would like to see is the fade away end as others have said. Instead of the fade away, step into the player and try to draw the foul then step back and hit it.

He's a great shooter who wants to carry his team and thinks he's an infallible shooter. It's a fatal flaw that leads to bad decisions. He needs to learn to move the ball around and not take contested shot because he thinks he can't miss going over 3 defenders.

He's not a great shooter by any definition.

He's been put in a bit of a tough position at PG but I won't be sorry when he graduates...from a basketball perspective. We NEED him this year, without a doubt, but his game is quite flawed.

This.

What planet do the people who think Chris Allen is a great shooter live on? We keep hearing that he's a "shooter". If Chris Allen is a shooter, Scotty is a banger.

Chris Allen is good at driving/penetrating, and is a decent distributor.

Based on the half season he's turned in at ISU, he's a pretty crappy shooter.

Some of Chris's misses are when he gets fouled. Unfortunately last night he had a bad night shooting free throws where he is usually pretty solid. Some of the other shots he missed were mid range jumpers that were pretty good looks he just didn't convert.

CW constantly called him the best player on the team and the guy with the most NBA potential. Personally I don't think he's even our best guard. Hopefully we'll see some of what he showed in the off season soon.

Allen makes impossible shots and can't make the open ones. Thats got to be a disorder or something. Maybe have Royce and Babb guard him while we're on offense so he's triple teamed, then he will make the shot.

Yep. He's 80% for the season. He was 85% for the season before he missed 4 FTs last night.

I don't think Allen is a terrible shooter, but more his shot selection that bothers me. Just seems to shoot at the wrong time, the wrong place, or wrong form and yet he makes some of them and looks incredible (or incredibly lucky). I would like it if he would cram some dunks after driving.
