What is wrong with the mighty Hawkeyes. The only true team they have wrestled this year is the Cyclones. Must be nice to basically sit out the first two months of the season. The little monkey is ducking competition! Never did this when he had two recruiting classes.

so are they supposed to schedule the rest of the top 10 to wrestle the first few months? As I said, what great competition did they skip out on?
Yes, the rest of the top 10 would be a good start. Forget it is the hoks for a second. It is bad for the sport when the top teams do not face each other until after the New Year...
They're wrestling everyone else later. Who cares if we were their only true test yet. They won 8 freaking matches in that "true test".
Luther Open, Baker, ICCC, Cornell College, Iowa State and Michigan State. No CKLV. No RTOC, No Lindenwood, No HNO. TWO, TWO COMPETITIONS THAT INVOLVE DIVISION ONE OPONENTS! Just pathetic!!!
And yet they cleaned Iowa State up at home. Brands tried to schedule another opponent for last week (UNI), but they said no. Brands even said we'll come to you and they still said no.
I'm on record saying that we aren't a great team, but were not ducking competition either. Why can't Iowa go to a meaningful November/December tournament. Other than the Midlands.
Because there aren't really a ton of meaningful tourneys in Nov, and they face some pretty tough compeition Jan-March.
The flip side to them facing non-DI compeition is think of what that does for wrestling as a whole. Think of how many people go to the Luther Open because the top ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will be there. Iowa does some good for the state of wrestling by going to that in Nov, that can't be overlooked.
As for why don't they go to Cliff-Keen, they will wrestle at least 5 of the top ten finishing teams from that tourney (depending on what happens at Nat'l duals they could see more). Maybe they should go to that one, I don't have an answer.
They were banking on being able to wrestle UNI two weeks ago, which cost them from wrestling another dual. The past few years they had wrestled teams like Lehigh, Edinboro, Buffalo, etc, but they opted to try and wrestle Schwab, but got turned down. What more can they do if they try to schedule a dual with an up-and-coming program, but they didn't want to?
I'll finish on telling you to look at their second semester schedule. They wrestle the Midlands Dec 29-30, three days later they travel out to wrestle Rutgers in NJ, two days later they are in Ohio for OSU. The next weekend they travel to Stillwater. In Feb they travel to Maryland and then get PSU a few days later. This is a team that will be doing a lot of second half travel, so trying to get a local early season dual (with UNI) was the optimal thing for this team. Otherwise they would be starting their traveling grind earlier and the wrestlers would have had no breather.
Why do the Hawkeyes have to be the only team to face the top compeition all the time? Actually a year ago they put PSU on the schedule when they weren't going to meet for a conference dual. Iowa will still wrestle plenty of the top teams to create plenty of excitement for the sport after the new year.
And you must not watch too much wrestling outside of ISU because there has been a ton of good duals to this point. There was a top ten matchup between Minny and Northwestern (though they dropped the ball on making it entertaining), Missouri wrestled Ohio State and beat them! Oklahoma state came up and wrestled Minnesota. Va Tech wrestled Penn State AND Ohio State.
There have been plenty of great top 10 or top 15 dual matchups so far this season, and a majority of them have been pretty great for the sport.
Idiotic post. Midlands, at #2 Minnesota, at #3 Ohio St., at #5 Penn St., at #7 Oklahoma St., vs. #10 Northwestern, National Duals... but sure, they're clearly ducking competition.
Agreed. Should we say ISU basketball is ducking competition since our RPI is in the 30s so far?
Pretty sure Iowa wrestling will be in the top 3 again at year end.

Da Fu**? This is what happens when 80% of the legit D1 trams are in one conference. They don't wrestle until conference season. This will continue to be until the sport finishes it's long drawn out death.
