CBS Bowl Projections

Would it be most appropriate for KU to take on ND in the pizza bowl? Mangino vs Weiss eat off before the game instead of a coin toss?

Why does everyone keep picking Iowa to the fiesta? Have any of the people picking these things even watched a game of theirs? They are bad!

For anyone who attended the last bowl game in Shreveport, what other city does it compare to? I heard a lot of bad things about Shreveport last time we had a bowl game. I don't care much about the city but if I am going to start considering plans I would love to get some info. Is it boring, small, dirty, dangerous, etc... what is the reason for the negativity?

Thanks in advance.

I had a great time there in 2001. We stayed and played at the Horseshoe when we weren't at the pep rally or game. It's not like Phoenix where you'd want to stay for a week, but I don't think it's as bad a some like to make it out to be.

I didn't go in 2004.

Well we probably should be last of the Big 12 teams. I don't care. It's a total surprise this year and any bowl is better than no bowl.

Anybody know how much money the Athletic deparment get's out of the Independence Bowl?

It was in a thread the other day. It's something in the order of 750k.

I believe all the money goes into a conference pool and is split evenly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all of the expenses are paid for with the Bowl money, and what's left over is then divided up among the conference teams. And with these lower tier bowls, there is pretty much no money left over after all of the traveling expenses for the team.

The Texas Bowl (it was the Houston Bowl) was the worst of the bowls that I've attended. The city of Houston had no idea there was a game when we were there. The "charm" of a game in Shreveport is the Independence Bowl is their baby. Without it Shreveport would be just another city on the map. People thanked us everywhere we went. I'd go back in a heartbeat. The Texas Bowl is the only one I wouldn't attend.

I actually had a lot of fun in Houston. It was a good game (even though we lost) and I thought the Alumni Association did a good job as usual with the festivities the day of and day before the game.

I wasn't a really big fan of Houston in general and do remember feeling the way you did. However, I thought there was a lot more lodging options, cheaper flights, and more entertainment options than Shreveport.

Funny story: We stayed at the Holiday Inn (I think) right behind Reliant Stadium, and when all of the Cyclone fans started arriving and checking in, the front desk staff had no idea what was going on. :biglaugh:
But, I had a great time down there, nonethless.
