When they first offered and recruited him he was. The point is that the staff can identify talent before the “experts”. Try to keep up here.

He was a 2 star on Rivals until they did their regular update, everywhere else he was rated quite a bit higher.
There is nothing to keep up with. It's not a thing, no matter how hard some people try to make it out to be.

Honest question: do these so called 'experts' actually review tape, evaluate competition, interview coaches. Or, as I suspect, do they ride the coat tails of coaches offers. "Hey! Matt Campbell just offered this guy. Let's bump him up." Just curious.
God only knows. I think the official justification at the time was that the level of competition Breece faced was relatively low and they hadn't gotten around to reviewing him in depth.
The recruiting services do a really good job evaluating the 4 and 5 star kids but the three stars get pretty murky. Keep in mind, they are only going to assign so many 4 and 5 star grades. CMC is doing exactly (better) what Kirk has done his entire career which is evaluate kids based on certain criteria you have. It’s 100% all about culture.
Awesome. Have you heard good things about any of the other true freshmen? Besides Noel of course, I think everyone knows by now that he's been looking really good.
Just viewed Jaylin Noel's Jr. tapes, impressive. Who does he remind you of? Milton? Other? How fast is he?

Rivals is **** for football ratings.
That said, obviously this staff can evaluate. Nobody will argue that.
According to a recent 247 podcast, Campbell said there "was a guy at nearly every position group" that has impressed and exceeded their expectations. Campbell also said this 2021 group was the best class he's ever brought in. Guys will push for playing time and push upperclassmen as early as this season.

ESPN is **** for football rankings. Between 247 and Rivals, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, and even each other out.
247 has been insane about certain of UI’s commits lately. And they had Eli Sanders as a 3 star, where Rivals bumped him up to four. Perhaps compensating for underranking Breee.
Rivals is better than 247 on most current ‘22 commits, because they’ve actually had them at camps. And others (like Rocco) are due for bumps at the next re-ranking before long.
