Car Buying Process

If you haven't already mentioned the logo, just let it go and take it to a body shop or somewhere else afterward and have them remove it. It is not difficult and they'll knock it for next to nothing. Ask them to do it, but if they put up a stink, have it done elsewhere.

I can't remember the financing process and possession, so I'll leave that to someone else.
 
One thing is learning to buy a car and deal with a dealer is something that you only learn after the first or two doing it. After that its easy and you will know what to do and say and what not to do or say.

Or take it off yourself, as suggested here. Just don't scratch the paint if you're using a straight edge razor to get the last bit of glue. :)
 
I go the other way on the logo on the back. I work with a dealer that has been great to us over the years. Always fair, none of these fees you guys are talking about (and believe me, I'm a paperwork hawk). Smaller dealer that my family has probably bought 15 cars from over the years. I have no problem with their tiny logo that doesn't really affect me in any way and if it throws them a bone, why not.

In fact, I just leased a new vehicle from them this weekend. Ended up paying exactly what I was looking to for exactly what I wanted. No haggle, no pain. First time leasing, so I'll see if I like that approach. Come at me anti-leasers :)

Won't come at you, I used to manage a car dealership. Leases were the most profitable department we had.

I always say that price is ON THE ROAD. No filing fee, dock fee, delivery fee, spotted owl fee (I would pay that) and any other fee you can dream up or the deal is off.

I haven't had anyone try to stick-on advertising on anything I have bought in a long time. The Audi 's had a dealers license plate frame that I just removed and gave back to them next time I was there.
 
On a random side note, has anyone had a Mazda CX-5? I’m looking for a compact suv and just drove one the other day. Wondering if anyone had any experience with Mazda’s.

We looked at them when we were buying my wife's last SUV. I really liked them and they were nicely priced but they were just too small compared to some of the competitors. The CX-9 would have been my choice but it was a little too large for my wife. I think a CX-7 would have been perfect but they quit making those. She ended up getting a VW Tiguan SEL-P but to be honest I don't think it was worth the $$$.

I just leased a a 2018 vehicle in August. My company reimburses me for the lease and then some. I researched what kind of vehicle I wanted, found out insurance rates, and registration costs. I also waited to the end of the month as most dealers have goals they need to hit. I told them what I wanted and what my monthly payment needed to be. I test drove what I wanted and they told me they couldn't do the deal. I walked out and went home. On the way home they called me and told me that they would meet my price as long as I could get it the next day (31st of the month). They even told me I could come in and get free car washes also.

Moral of the story- stick to your guns and buy a car at the end of the month!

Cool. I have a VW Passat lease right now, and the only reason I leased was because I knew I was gonna need a bigger vehicle once our kids got a bit older. Now that they are 4 and 2.5, I'm needing bigger. So the new 2018 Tiguan intrigues me and it would save me some money going with that car, but the base price on the one I want is $28k. Hers must have been even higher, so I understand what you are saying about the $$$. Not sure what I want to do.

I'm between the Tiguan ('18 since its the bigger version), CX-5, and haven't yet looked at the CRV but plan to.

What are your thoughts on the Tiguan other than price? And are you in the 2017 or 2018?

Hers was nearly $37k(2018), it has every single available option known to man. She is coming from a 2013 Acura RDX ,which I'm now driving and has a 270hp V6. She really likes the Tiguan more than me but she does miss the power. Here are my thoughts.

The tech is amazing(only in SEL-P). It has the large screen to the right but the whole dash is completely digital and it has the 12.3" digital cockpit. So she can decide exactly what shows.

It has carplay and android auto. Front and rear camera including one that looks from above the car.

VW now has a 7 year warranty so I'm not real concerned about reliability.

The VW AWD system is a lot better than what we had in the Acura.

It's very roomy. It's solid. It's quiet on the highway. Sunroof goes the whole length of the car and really makes it feel big. Adaptive cruise and lane assist work pretty decent. Cool adjustable interior lights at night all over.

A few downsides. I'm more into tech than anyone yet I even get confused by all the options. The UI is confusing and you have to go 5 menus deep to find certain things. This is small but why does a $37k vehicle not have Homelink? Start/Stop thing that all cars have now sucks.

The biggest downfall in my mind is the engine. It has like 185hp out of a 4cyl turbo. It sounds like crap when you take off and is gutless unless you go all in. With that it gets about 2mpg better than our 270hp V6.

I traded in my car for her Tiguan so now I'm driving the RDX. I want something different but it's so hard to get rid of the RDX when it only has 55k miles, we know the history, it's been bulletproof, and having all our cars paid off. With that said, I sat in a used BMW M235 and a Camaro SS today.....
