Cameron Lard Eligible at Semester?

Well here is an actual update from Prohm.

@TommyBirch Prohm says they finishing up getting everything lined up to get Cameron Lard to campus. Doesn't anticipate him playing this season.

Now we can go Lard Watch for him to officially arrive and enroll. Not to play though

Coach Prohm just said during the call-in show that he is leaning towards using Lard next season as opposed to this one. Didn't completely shut the door stating, "unless he blows away the first couple weeks in practice... I just think it would be to his benefit to take it off and learn the system and get his body to the division 1 level."

I think it's pretty simple. Whenever he gets here, practice him for a couple weeks. If he offers more to the team than Holden, he should absolutely play this year. If he is more raw talent and between Holden and Carter, then you absolutely red shirt him. I'm certain this is Prohm's thought process.

With Lard now cleared we may have to restart this debate.

Travis Hines just published an article on the subject.

I'll admit after Young/Holden got their second fouls last night I was wondering if Prohm was looking down his bench hoping to see Cameron as an option.

With one Lard mystery solved, an even more intriguing one looms

I doubt it. Last night would have been a great opportunity for Carter to play a couple minutes and he didn't. I don't agree with that but I think it shows Prohm isn't going to have Lard play.

The general sense I got from that last comment is that if we decide to play him, it means we have big problems. We have some issues at that position, but we've shown ourselves capable of overcoming them to an extent. If Prohm decides to play him, I feel like it will be because he quickly displays that he's ready for that and that he fills a need that could potentially take us from one level to another. And I think if Prohm feels he can do that, he'll likely give Cameron the final choice. College basketball is too transitional of a sport over 4-5 years to make a decision based on what the kid might bring in 2020.

Prohm did say he'll need to see Cameron in practice and evaluate the possibility of him playing last week. Lard is 6'9" 220 lbs so he has the size to compete in theory. It is a long shot but possible CL impresses right away (like Young) and Prohm decides he can contribute more than Holden he may go with him. Granted ery long shot.

It would have been preferable to Red Shirt S. Carter last year in retrospect but Prohm chose not to and play him but for few spot minutes vs TT last year. It shows CSP is willing to try a green freshman and burn the RS so it isn't a impossibility.
