Caels new salary

Would you uproot your family and move several states away for a job in a more prestigious market and a measly 10% pay increase?

I know you love Iowa....Cael claims he loves ISU as well. Would you, COULD you....move your family away from here for a 10% raise?

The answer is no. No way...

I am almost certain they cut him a LARGE signing bonus, regardless of salary.

My guess would be a longevity type annuity, paid out if he remains for a certain period of time. We did this with a Hockey Coach at UND a few years back, from a prominent booster.

I would also guess his salary base will only be what Cael has stated 10% better, but with a attractive type incentive program.

Jon.....let's put it in your terms.

It probaly costs 15% more to live on Penn that Iowa.

Jon is also from here, and has lived here most of his life. Cael is from Utah, and doesn't feel the "pull" of home like many Iowans who have spent a lot of time out of state do.

Just my .02

I agree with that. Cael won 4 national championships, went undefeated as a Cyclone......I would think that would create some pull as well.

You'd think it would, yeah. I agree with Jon, something doesn't smell right. Cael is going to have much tougher go of it at Penn State than he would have had in Ames.

ISU was/is arguably the top wrestling school in the Big 12, wheeras Iowa is unquestionably the best in the Big 10, and Penn State is one of the bottom feeders.

Maybe Cael is trying to prove something to himself. Maybe he likes the Yeungling.

haha I know its true but :wink:was this needed

I wrote my story at 4 p.m., then checked his blog and he had it was posted. I was wondering when other people would see it. I check his blog twice a day, usually.

He says 'less than 10' percent for the increase, so I don't know what that means. And he emphasized that Penn State is a sleeping giant. He wrote GIANT, actually.

It also bears mentioning that Penn State's wrestling budget was roughly three times bigger than ISU's for 07-08, as reported by Iowa State Greenlee School of Journalism graduate Tommy Birch, Keeler and the Register.

So, what exactly has that budget gotten them in the past few years in terms of wrestling?

I agree....I bet he just likes yuengling.

So, where are those folks that beat the "he did it for the money" and "it's what's best for his family" now?

Clearly it's not for the cash. And I can't see how relocating his family for a 10% raise is what's best for them.

Cael also refuted what was said in the ISU presser, that he felt it was easier to win a title at PSU, noting historical facts.

What gives? Did Cael not like JP? Vice versa? Was Cael tired of being a Cyclone? Did he dislike coaching in the Big 12?

But it WILL be seen. He has to disclose it by law.

As far as I understand it Penn State does not disclose coaching salaries.

This was discussed til many on ESPN were red in the face when Big11 football coaching salaries were released and JoePa's was not on the list

Edit: Nevermind, someone else pointed that out

No, Pennsylvania enacted their "Right to Know" law at the beginning of 2009, requiring Penn State to make public the top 25 salaries of the university, not including officers and directors.
So, if Cael is indeed making the "big bucks" as many on this board continue to believe, it has to be released by May 30.

BTW, JoePa's salary has also been made public.

Either way, they are only going to report his base salary, as paid by PSU, which is "less than a 10% increase" from what we were paying. He would not openly lie about that number just so he could be proven wrong. They will not report all of the outside money that he will get from this deal, and probably not the signing bonus. So whatever number we are told, isnt going to say much in the way of an answer either way.

No, I could not. But Tarheel added the big caveat.

If he were leaving for the mecca of his profession, that is one thing. But he is not. In terms of history and tradition, he is taking a lesser position, IMO...one that has a lot of upside. Perhaps he is wired to build his own legacy...blaze his own trail, I just don't know.

Cael has said in his blog its a less than 10% increase, and that the talk of him getting a million dollar contract is ridiculous.

I have no problem taking what he has said there at face value, because those are going to be facts that can be proven, so I doubt he is gonna lie.

It then opens up the door to a lot of questions.

Did he leave because of:

-not wanting to be #2 in his state
-rift in the program/athletic department/ISU heirarchy

I guess those two things come to my mind...Cael is right, the number of athletes out east that he can get is probably an easier road than at ISU...but he has proven he can land great recruiting classes at Iowa State. He was not in the same conference as Iowa. Now he is.

As for winning the national title being easier at PSU...heck, winning the Big Ten is gonna be a chore...OSU is on the rise, MN will be saltier next year...Iowa is back...Michigan has a solid program...most every team is ranked in the Top 25 year in and year out. I guess I just don't understand that one.

He has publicly thanked Jamie in his blog, saying ISU is lucky to have him.

All of this just doesnt add up for me, and even though I have some fun on the radio from time to time, I think folks can tell when I am going conspiracy theory for the sake of entertainment.

This is not one of those times. It just doesnt add up....10 national qualifiers returning, after showing great improvement from last year to this year with regards to offensive style wrestling, bonus points, etc....

This might be the best/most intelligent post by you since I've been on this board. Well put... although, I still think there is a ton of money coming at him... some how or another(signing bonus, incentives, etc.) Which makes him a sellout still.

Aren't you easily swayed. A poster comes on here and states he has a credible source that says Cael isn't getting the money and provides nothing to support it. You take it as fact so it supports your JP is satan argument.

We still don't know anything. Show me a link that gives salary plus private donations to support his salary?
