Caels new salary

So, where are those folks that beat the "he did it for the money" and "it's what's best for his family" now?

Clearly it's not for the cash. And I can't see how relocating his family for a 10% raise is what's best for them.

Cael also refuted what was said in the ISU presser, that he felt it was easier to win a title at PSU, noting historical facts.

What gives? Did Cael not like JP? Vice versa? Was Cael tired of being a Cyclone? Did he dislike coaching in the Big 12?

Who are you to say what's best for Cael and his family? You haven't walked in his shoes, and you don't know what transpired behind closed doors.

I can't imagine that he came to this decison lightly. Moving one's family across the country after putting down roots in a place is no easy task, and I'm speaking from experience her.

It doesn't matter if you think he's making a good decision or not. The only opinion that matters is his, and I can imagine his wife.

I still keep hearing that with the booster contributions, it will end up being around 300k/year with a 1 million signing bonus.

Penn State is probably paying around 150k/year, which is the 10% raise he was talking about.

This is close to what I was told saturday at the game is was 1.5 million over 5 years with a 1.5 million signing bonus. Also Cael didn't even give Pollard a chance to give him a counter offer.

Cael has said in his blog its a less than 10% increase, and that the talk of him getting a million dollar contract is ridiculous.

I have no problem taking what he has said there at face value, because those are going to be facts that can be proven, so I doubt he is gonna lie.

It then opens up the door to a lot of questions.

Did he leave because of:

-not wanting to be #2 in his state
-rift in the program/athletic department/ISU heirarchy

I guess those two things come to my mind...Cael is right, the number of athletes out east that he can get is probably an easier road than at ISU...but he has proven he can land great recruiting classes at Iowa State. He was not in the same conference as Iowa. Now he is.

As for winning the national title being easier at PSU...heck, winning the Big Ten is gonna be a chore...OSU is on the rise, MN will be saltier next year...Iowa is back...Michigan has a solid program...most every team is ranked in the Top 25 year in and year out. I guess I just don't understand that one.

He has publicly thanked Jamie in his blog, saying ISU is lucky to have him.

All of this just doesnt add up for me, and even though I have some fun on the radio from time to time, I think folks can tell when I am going conspiracy theory for the sake of entertainment.

This is not one of those times. It just doesnt add up....10 national qualifiers returning, after showing great improvement from last year to this year with regards to offensive style wrestling, bonus points, etc....
I agree totally. All the public things he says about Jamie are pure window dressing.

Given the way that Penn State can shield the financial details of their athletic department, it will be extremely difficult to determine the full details of Sanderson's contract.

Aren't you easily swayed. A poster comes on here and states he has a credible source that says Cael isn't getting the money and provides nothing to support it. You take it as fact so it supports your JP is satan argument.

We still don't know anything. Show me a link that gives salary plus private donations to support his salary?

Cael is a pretty good source.

No let's chose not to believe the greatest Cyclone of all time. Someone who has shown to be a great person with great character. Instead let's believe a blog from a Penn St fan. Some people NEED to believe that to make them feel better

In the spirit of full disclosure, PSU fan here.

No idea what the salary is, but sure the boosters bucked up big time. After putting up big for that awesome new facility, why not have a top line coach to go with it?

I think it is important to note that Cael is not exactly walking into a tattered and torn situation here. PSU had 2 AAs this year (both freshmen), a junior who just missed AA honors after finishing 3rd in 08, and 2 other wrestlers I suspect will be close to AAs next year. This is a team that would finish in the top 8 next year even without Cael.

I'm sure he noted the above, and has noticed the junior crop of prep recruits in PA this year (as has everyone else in the country) and sees an opportunity to make a serious push for a title within 3 yrs.

He's always been a winner. I just can't see him making a $ grab, and go into a situation where he doesn't honestly believe he can win a championship.

You say we NEED to listen to Cael?

Cael said it isn't JP. LISTEN TO HIM.
