Cael Sanderson Offered PSU Job

huh??? please explain how this has to do with Cael... even Chizik?

True, I got off track there. My fault.

If this were an isolated incident I could brush it off, but there seems to be a lot of conflict in this athletic department. Even IF it were just about the money I think Jeremy would have stated that at the beginning of the thread, instead of saying "tensions have been building".

As for Chiz I think he was unprepared to coach at the Big 12 level because he demoted his two buddies that were Offensive and Defensive coordinators. He didn't know what he needed to do to be successful. That is a trend as well.

Step 1) Someone throws out a rumor they heard, almost apologeticly

Step 2) That person gets berated by many on this board.

Step 3) The unimaginable happens, a meltdown ensues, and Jamie Pollard is to blame.

Proposed solution: No more crazy "out-of-left-field" posts about people leaving...thus they will no longer come true.

Step 4) New hire announced that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Step 5) We hate the dude that left

Step 6) Life goes on

Step 7) Cheer like hell for Iowa State!

Exactly. And he's kept BF on. The McDermott hire is still hotly debated, and Chizik left for a job in an elite school. Cael obviously has done a great job. But ISU is in far worse shape than when JP started... :jimlad:

C'mon, retaining BF was kind of a no brainer. ;)

I'm not sure what shape we are in now compared to Pollard's start date. I think it's highly debatable if we are better off, worse off or generally on a plateau when considering all things.

The ISU vs. Life nut kick photo won't even work for this one. Will the suffering ever end?

Man I used to be the biggest JP supporter. With the lifetime contract (seemingly) for McD, offering buddy Gene an extension behind closed doors and now on the brink of losing an icon, I can't say I have much faith left in his judgment.

OK, I don't get what JP could do differently here. He basically sped up Douglas's retirement to give Cael the job. And Cael is currently one of the highest paid coaches in wrestling. What kind of "judgement" are you talking about? ISU doesn't have a bottomless pit of money to throw at a wrestling coach. All JP can do is offer Cael as much as possible and hope that he takes it.

well enough to get offered from a better conference and better FB school tells me he was ready... just not for the hard work it is required at ISU. while he didn't get the wins... he is seen to be good enough for Auburn.

After they got turned down publicly like 5 times. Their fanbase went nuts. Chizik was the drunk chick with smeared makeup and messed up hair at 2:00 AM. The AD wouldn't have done it sober but he knew he could score with Chiz.

I am seriously on the ledge right now with ISU athletics. I have been a Pollard supporter until 6:10 am today when I heard the news. If you can't keep arguably the best college wrestler of all time at his almamatter to coach then you gotta go. You have no business running a Big 12 department. It ain't the money either, Cael is already one of the highest paid coaches in wrestling and he's doing a damn good job. Also don't tell me it's to coach in the Big 10 either. The Big 12 has 2 of the 3 most storied college wrestling programs in the country (OSU and ISU next to Iowa), not to mention Nebraska who is getting good as well.

This hurts waaaay more than Chizik leaving and I'm not even that big of a wrestling fan.

Actually 3 of 4. You forgot Oklahoma with 7 NC's and +800 dual wins

Right. Not all that different than when Nebraska hired Callahan who was somewhere between #5-10 on their list.

Apparently according to everyone here, JP wasn't able to retain Chizik or Cael, so apparently he did something right with BF, eh?

He had no choice but to keep BF on or he would have been run right out of Ames.

Now let me ask you this: Auburn didn't seek Chizik, rather he want after them, why do you think he did that after only 2 years and a contract extension in hand and now Cael wants to leave after 3 years, could it be because Pollard probably isn't the best guy to work for? This just reeks of internal issues and it starts with the AD.

Financially ISU is in a lot better shape, but success wise they aren't and without success you will eventually lose that financial support.
