Cael Sanderson Offered PSU Job

Well, everybody has a problem with JP not getting along with Cael...I'm good with firing the JP if you guys can guarantee me that the new AD gets along with all the other coaches. But you can't...

Can you guarantee me...

- JP is the right man.
- Paul was a good hire
- Greg will start winning here

No, you can't.

The correct word is "rebuilding."

Can we just get over the Jamie Pollard hate? Like he's responsible for these people wanting to take better jobs. Every hire he's made has been lauded by the sports community at ISU for being a "great catch" - when you catch someone on their way up, there's bound to be people moving on to bigger jobs.

Is Penn State a better job than ISU? Absolutely not, unless they offer him a ton more money. And Jeremy mentioned there is conflict between him and Cael, so I doubt he would be moving on if that was the case.

Fair enough...I still come back to lets make a change so you feel better...nevermind if it is the right move or not.

And nobody can tell me why JP is wrong? Could Cael be wrong?

We're talking about wrestling here right? I mean, wrestling? Look, I love that ISU has a great tradition in the sport. I watch the Iowa match every year on PBS, I get into it, I watch the national championships, I love that.

But folks, we're talking about our wrestling coach. If we dropped the sport completly how many would really miss it? I mean really? Cael has yet to even beat Iowa, even once. What is he like 0-3 against them. You kind of have to at least beat them every once in a while for me to give a crap whether you stay or go. Frankly, I love Cael and I will be sad if he leaves but this is nowhere near meltdown news.

Id completely agree. He's a great representative for our school. However, i'll be honest, i couldnt care less about wrestling.

The only troubling thing is that this keeps happening. Football 2x, Basketball, Gymnastics, Wrestling... its gotta stop.

I'd agree with that except for McDermott.

Um, most of this is not hate. It's just simply stringing all of these ridiculous events together and simply wanting answers and change.

JP has been great in many regards. But in the one key factor that really matters, winning, his tenure has been epically bad. I'm all for giving a guy time, but how much longer should we wait? Especially now that FB is in rebuild mode #2 and wrestling may be losing a legend?

Again, it's time the fans got some real answers (or results, that would do), or wallets that were already starting to get dry - are going to completely close on ISU.

The fears that I've had about ISU putting so much money into facilities are starting to come true. Overextended on many fronts and the winning just is not there to support it. This could be the calm before the storm, folks.

I am seriously on the ledge right now with ISU athletics. I have been a Pollard supporter until 6:10 am today when I heard the news. If you can't keep arguably the best college wrestler of all time at his almamatter to coach then you gotta go. You have no business running a Big 12 department. It ain't the money either, Cael is already one of the highest paid coaches in wrestling and he's doing a damn good job. Also don't tell me it's to coach in the Big 10 either. The Big 12 has 2 of the 3 most storied college wrestling programs in the country (OSU and ISU next to Iowa), not to mention Nebraska who is getting good as well.

This hurts waaaay more than Chizik leaving and I'm not even that big of a wrestling fan.

I disagree completely...
it's not a money maker but the tradition of ISU wrestling is much more important. In my opinion, anyone that supports this point of view hasn't been a Cyclone fan long enough to appreciate the long tradition. Cyclone wrestling is like Michigan football...without all the dough...which makes it better in my opinion.

One of the rumors yesterday was that they were offering him more money.

Seriously, I cannot see how Cael would have issues with the current administration that:
Supported him through a 159-0 collegiate record
Gave him a assistant job to support his family while training to compete for the Olympics
Then gave him prior to probably being ready the HC job at one of the most prestigious wrestling programs in the nation
Made him the highest paid coach in his sport
Allowed him to hire his staff, including his own brother
We allowed Cael every luxury <ACRONYM title="Iowa State">ISU</ACRONYM> can afford and, if true, it's not enough? Then what is, someone tell me what the AD Dept. isn't doing for this guy?

Well said.

"Um," how do you expect to win with the same coaches who have just done a mediocre job year after year? JP has brought in coaches who were on their way up, and were highly sought after - I'm pretty sure his object there wasn't losing, but I guess I've been wrong before. He brought in the people who he thought gave us the best chance of winning - and they made the personal decisions to leave, for whatever reason.

It's America, baby. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Time to start the good old bring back Danny Mac thread. Dump JP and hire McCarney as AD. With JP gone, he'd probably be glad to come back. That might make everybody happy.

I'm wondering this also. What else can we give the guy?
