Ignore the screenshot and look at the play itself. Do you really think in one fluid, split-second motion he can turn, locate Mika, find Mika's eyes, and poke him directly in the eye? I think it's pretty obvious he thought Mika was further away and was attempting to strip the ball. You don't steal the ball from a big man by gently tapping at the ball, you have to generate some downward momentum.

Now I agree it was a flagarant, and maybe he even deserved the flagarant 2. However, I just can't justify how Mika can face up to Hogue and swing his elbows, knowing Hogue was right there, and that is considered a "basketball play", and turning and hitting a guy in the eye who was behind you isn't. They both should have been flagarants.
 
If there are any BYU lurkers around here, how does the 2 year mission effect scholarships? Do they disenroll from school to go? If not, are they still on scholarship? How does it avoid the 5 to play 4 rule? That would take some advanced planning to make sure you stay under the scholarship limit each year...
 
The TV guys were saying something about them changing the parameters of the mission thing but I missed the details.

I'm no expert, but there have been college wrestlers in the past who have gone on 2 year missions. I believe there is a special clause in the NCAA rule book that basically says a Mission does not count towards your eligible years.

I was watching some sportscenter after the game and while NBA has the best players in the world it is clear the fans don't have the passion of CBB fans. I really hope Hoiberg stays and brings us the Era of Iowa State.

I'd say given RPI (#9) and 2 pretty good wins, the range is a 4-6 seed.

ISU was manhandled on the boards in the 1st half and was lucky to trail by only five. We righted that in the 2nd half and that's why we won, despite all of the events and key players out of the game.

IDK where he was. Fred may have felt like he wasn't the man to get put in, he may be hurt, or he may be getting punished for something off court like what happened with either Percy or Booker last year. I'm pretty sure I saw him on the bench though.

My take on Kane. He was going for the hard foul, but drago didn't go up immediately. This threw him off so he just reached forward to foul. Unfortunately for Kane, Dragos eyeball was the first thing he hit. Not a big deal it wasn't on purpose just a really weird set of circumstances.

Gritty win, win, crazy that scoring 90 points is considered gritty but I don't know what else to call it. Thank God for Niang. Houge got screwed on two calls, but that is basketball. Great experience for everyone tonight plenty of coaching points for Hoiberg to build on, and a resume builder for the tourney.

With all this said about the Kane/Mika incident I really do hope the guy is alright. The eye is not something to mess with. With a shot like that you worry about his vision.

I noticed during one of the cucpcakes that when SDW got the ball, Mann yelled right away "Rip through!" SDW stood straight up and let the defender into his body. I don't think Hoiberg trusted SDW with the ball late when BYU was going all-out for a steal.

I like SDW's game, but I think he has a little Percy/Clyburn in him. They are all laid back types, all from Detroit. I don't know if that's just a coincidence, but it seems they all share the same temperament.

I figured it was because Hoiberg considered SDW more of a liability on defense
