Ignore the screenshot and look at the play itself. Do you really think in one fluid, split-second motion he can turn, locate Mika, find Mika's eyes, and poke him directly in the eye? I think it's pretty obvious he thought Mika was further away and was attempting to strip the ball. You don't steal the ball from a big man by gently tapping at the ball, you have to generate some downward momentum.
Now I agree it was a flagarant, and maybe he even deserved the flagarant 2. However, I just can't justify how Mika can face up to Hogue and swing his elbows, knowing Hogue was right there, and that is considered a "basketball play", and turning and hitting a guy in the eye who was behind you isn't. They both should have been flagarants.
