Here's the biggest factor as I see it. Campbell is not Hoiberg. Campbell likes to recruit.

Hot off the presses

"Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is being talked about in numerous NFL front offices as a potential head-coaching candidate, league sources said, with the Browns among them. Campbell is an Oho native who coached previously at Toledo and grew up a Browns fan, and he has earned a strong reputation among NFL scouts and evaluators who have scouted his players over the years.

Campbell, who turns 39 this week, is seen as a natural leader who knows how to delegate responsibility, and he is easy to get along with and very organized, according to many NFL personnel who have interacted with him over the years. Browns general manager John Dorsey, looking for someone stable who can relate to his young and emerging team in the aftermath of the Hue Jackson drama, hit a home run by drafting running back Kareem Hunt out of Toledo when Campbell was still there and Dorsey was with the Chiefs, and Campbell is definitely seen as a star on the rise."

Maybe we could hire Bill Snyder?

I just don't see how we keep him at this point. He's soooo young and has no ties to the state of Iowa. At this point I just pray it happens fast. Get an offer and go. If this stuff drags on over the course of a year or two where he's linked to every opening that comes up it will negatively impact hos ability to recruit.

He knows how to delegate responsibility is an interesting mention. I wonder if our OC feels that way?

You're so bad at this

Matt Campbell has the chance to do something no one has ever done before at Iowa State. Campbell may eventually leave. But I do not see it happening right now. He has a Freshman QB in Purdy who is truly something special. And next year could be special. The Browns job will always be there because they continually suck. Coaching graveyard.

Troll or no troll, Hoiberg not ripping the band aid off hurt us. I'd imagine it'd be the same thing in football.

There's no question it did, and it would be more pronounced in football. I have no idea if Campbell would leave for the Browns but It wouldd be stupid to dismiss it outright. Those that think the Browns is a bad job either have their head in the sand or live in the past. They have a quality GM and front office, have a potential franchise QB in place, and a lot of quality young pieces. They are in a much better place than most of the other NFL teams likely to be looking for a head coach.
