BRING BACK THE MAGIC!!

I can't believe so many are hung up over the staff not making sure Brackins got one or two more points.

So what if he did get it? He holds the record in a losing effort?

Yet another moral victory for ISU.

Yes, would've been nice if he got it, but trying to win the game is more important. And no one can fault the staff for not knowing what the record was and how close Craig was to it.

Just motivation for him the next time out. :)

Exactly. The coaches decision to take Brackins out was to give the fans a chance to give him a standing ovation for his efforts.

The day the coaching staff starts to worry about individual accomplishments is the day some of the threads about how bad our coaches suck would hold some water.

Right.

And I hate watery threads on the internet. They lead to electrocution and in some cases - even death.

Show me one good upset in Hilton and that place will be back rocking again. A majority of fans don't believe it will happen and it shows. Hilton used to be a place where everyone in the building knew it was going to be a knock-down, drag-out, not-in-my-house showdown no matter who the opponent was. Now, sadly we just let teams waltz in here steal from our fridge, shave the cat and **** in the closet on the way out the door.

I have no idea what coach we should go after or who we should get, but if you watch the games and think that McD is the right man for this job, then I don't know what you are seeing. What strong statement did the team just make? That, like always in this McD era, we can't win a game that we aren't supposed to? Don't get me wrong, I was fired up when he was hired a few years ago, so it's not like I've been against him from the beginning.

I know we aren't getting the upsets when we know they are there, but we have had some good wins. Purdue last year was a big win and they turned out to be good. (Also, that was a stretch last year where we played REALLY good basketball until Wes J got hurt for the second time against Missouri, I think). This year, it's turning out that the UNI win was actually a really good one. Sometimes, I think we feel that if we actually beat a team, it isn't a good win.

Here it comes...it starts with the students. Things are way too PG-13 anymore...I heard a bit of some good trash talking from CA but everyone is so afraid to have their CA card rejected they try not to cross that line.

just felt we shouldnt exclude anyone.

Hilton needs to come back to life, but it is easier said than done. First: JP is placing more emphasis on money than fans that will actually cheer. Yes, he wants (and needs that money) for improving our facilities, but how do you attract people when our beloved James H. Hilton Colesium's prime seats are being populated by stiffs who don't stand, or cheer. Hilton used to be a place people wanted to go, and respected. It seems the only thing they know how to do now is complain in local papers that their coffee is too expensive, or doesn't have a lid, and that the warmups are the wrong color! For the record, Cardinal is closer to burgundy than bright red, and who gives a rat's fuzzy behind about coffee, salads and deli sandwiches. Give us hot dogs, popcorn, Clone Cones and fans who cheer again Mr. Pollard! Cyclone Alley is doing their part, give us fans who respect Hilton Magic again, and not just for the women's games!

Does anybody have video of what "Hilton Magic used to be"? I would like to see if people just like to remember that one game against Kansas from years back and apply it to every game... or if the loud yelling occurred the entire game non stop as often claimed... I have a feeling it's not much different than it is today. The only difference might be the Ws and Ls... and even that... it sounds like we must have been a 30 win team every other year 'back in the day'.

PS.. if you do have video... I don't want to just see highlights after a big shot... but I want to see all our fans going crazy loud after our opponent goes on a 10-0 run.

+1

And then some.

On more than one occasion, our arena was quite loud when we were down by 10 or more. I vividly remember an 11 point deficit in which everyone was on their feet - because we had just brought it down from 17 or something like that. We got it down to 6 only to squander the opportunity - again.

Excellent point. I can't remember a time in current or past days when we just got down 10+ and our fans were still going crazy.

You would be incorrect.

There were at least 1,500 empty seats to a home game against Kansas. I remember Fizer's sophmore year when we were not very good, and how packed that place was. That was after a couple years of really bad basketball. It is different today

Counting empty seats, the true mark of a fan hell bent on bringing back the Hilton Magic.

Obviously some of these people have never gone to a Cubs Game in the "Friendly Confines." People show up there and DO cheer even though they most of the time don't have anything to cheer about! PLUS the place is packed most of the time!

Yes I counted every seat. I went around with a clip board and asked people sitting by the empty seats if there was anybody sitting there. Final Count was 1,564. :jimlad:

I took a stab in the dark. There were a lot of empty seats at the game. Way to many for an Iowa State vs Kansas game

So we have two issues:
1. Are fans loud enough and should the be better. This will be debated all day. And it is a very complex issue.

2. The second issue is what seems to be the a major part of the issue from what you express.

Yes there were fans who had had seats in the parquet for many years that chose not to pay the donation level to sit in the Parquest. Many of them had been grandfathered in and were paying a lower donation level than was required for those seats for many years.

While it may have required a $2,500 donation, they were only donating, $1,000, $1,500 or even less. Does that make them good or bad fans? No. They were long time ticket holders and they have been good supporters. And, they should always have first selection over a new donor at the same level. That is why there is a priority system.

However, at the same time, their have been donors that for years have been making more than the minimum donation level to sit in the lower level and have not been able to move down for 4-5 years. I personally know of at least 4-5 for which this was the case. They kept donating over $2,500+/year and could only sit in the balcony in a $1,000 donation section.

Most of these finally had a chance to move down when the AD asked everyone to simply pay the correct donation level for the seats a donor is sitting in.

Leaving the yelling, standing out if it.

Who has been a better fan?

a. The one who has had tickets longer but has not paid the full donation for the seating area?

b. Or, the one who has set in a lower seating area who continued to give more of a donation than required for many years as well.

For the record, I am not talking about donors who have just signed on in the last year and expect to move up. I am talking donors waiting for a significant period of time.

The amount required to sit in the Parquet did not change, they only asked everyone sitting there to pay the minimum donation.
Thanks for that report from the Athletic Department. Would you actually have us believe that someone who sit in the corner of the balcony and give more? I do know people that did sit in the front row of the balcony behind the baskets, but they all moved down as they got on in years. They did, and still cheer though, which is more than you can say for some of newer donors, or the fans who get their tickets because of their company buying them!

i have highlight tape from 91-92. we made the tourney that year with a 5-9 conf record. so obviously had ups and downs, but it was packed for every game., esp conf games. no comparison now. i still feel we can get there.

it isn't even close today. we can talk about it until we are cardinal/gold in the face. many of us have experienced it first hand. i did from 89-94. Hilton was nationally known for the fans, and for being one of, if not the toughest place to play. I said in another thread that Saturday was getting closer, but still not there for many reasons.

Yep, just go ahead and blame it on the students. We get so much crap its really not even funny. Hilton Magic may never be the same as it once was but it was pretty damn close on Saturday.

Not a report from the Athletic Department, simply a report of what was happening.
