BRING BACK THE MAGIC!!

and we're off....

I think the only thing that will bring Hilton Magic back to life is a coaching change. I know, I'm horrible for saying that, but it's time to start looking hard at what exactly McD has done here. Very little. He's not the coach we thought we were getting, period. I hope JP has the bits to make the tough call sooner rather than later.

Let's assume you are correct. After the current players leave (again)...In your opinion what coach should we go after? What coach can we get? we just made a pretty strong statement...

Hilton Magic will return around the time good guard play returns to the Hilton... which coincidentally will also be the times that the team starts getting some W's.

It struck me on Saturday that the best two guards Gmac has recruited thus far were Taylor and Dodie Dunson. Attrition has been the killer.... this is a pretty dang good team with Dunson at the 2 and WJ at the 3.

Have people really forgotten what Hilton Magic used to be? Saturday was not Hilton Magic.

Fans used to cheer when the team needed to get picked up. Now fans only cheer when something good happens. It gets just as loud as it used to but not as consistently loud. You can hear crickets during free throws from the opposing team.

Craig Brackins has 42 points and 14 rebounds and there are only 5K fans to cheer him when he gets taken out of the game w/ under a minute left b/c most fans want to get out to their car. It was sad

Frankly I would have left CB in the game to take one more shot as there was time to remove him even later in the game. The Big 12 scoring record would have been something to talk about if the rest of our season goes south.

The Magic declined to its current levels under Van De Putz and Wayne Morgan. Now there were two class acts. Morgan couldn't coach his way out of a paperbag, and Bruce the Beancounter was the worst thing that ever happened to Iowa State Athletics. May Capt. Constipation never hold a job as an AD again!

I will give the current AD kudos for vision and things like the $99 tickets, but you do not **** off old fans when you need all the help you can get! Fans used to cheer for the team ALL the way through a game, NOT just when we were hot. There was an electric atmosphere. Does anyone remember the Okie State game when Hilton truly rocked due to people stomping in the upper decks to bring us back from the brink of defeat? How many times didn't they do that? The old times were good and not so good. Under Johnny, we were great at home, but couldn't win on the road. Floyd brought in the era of the "Cardiac Clones." We didn't win by much, or in many cases until the last few seconds of the game. We had "Larryball" and the trip to the "Elite Eight," but we also had a scandal that could have been nipped in the bud early by a in-effective and vindictive AD who by his actions made us as much of a laughing stock as what our former coach did! All he did was brought in a head coach better suited to be a recruiter than anything else. Also what kind of a man basically tells the young men he was supposed to be in charge of molding, to quit school and go pro when he knows damn well that they needed more time in the college ranks?

I have now said my peace and will move on. Hilton Magic is not just cheering for our team when it is winning, but inspiring them when they are down too. 'Nuff Said.:chatterbox:

I don't know for sure....but the staff was probably not looking at the big 12 records while they were coaching...they annouced it after the game.

Would also have something to talk about it Brackins gets hurt after the game was decided...

This is starting to turn into one long, completely incoherent rant.

Can you tell us what Pollard has done to ruin Hilton Magic?

YAP YAP YAP People gotta cheer louder YAP YAP YAP YAP Rich people suck YAP YAP YAP Hilton Magic is Gone YAP YAP YAP

I just saved someone a lot of reading.

I was just pretty upset that there wasn't 12K fans to cheer on Brackins as he left the game. It was one of (if not) the best performance we have seen from a Cyclone player, and more than half the fans didn't even applaud him as they took him out of the game. Very poor taste for anyone who left early

I have no idea what coach we should go after or who we should get, but if you watch the games and think that McD is the right man for this job, then I don't know what you are seeing. What strong statement did the team just make? That, like always in this McD era, we can't win a game that we aren't supposed to? Don't get me wrong, I was fired up when he was hired a few years ago, so it's not like I've been against him from the beginning.

i remember the Okie St game very well. Thigpen in the doghouse to start the game, then goes off in the 2nd half to bring us back from 18 down. They had Darwyn Alexander shooting 2 fts, down 1 with 5 sec or so left and he missed both. there was no one in the place not making noise. easily the loudest Hilton had been in my 5 yrs there. the floor was literally shaking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking you...Pretty sure, you have no idea what is all involved...

UGH... the magic was there Saturday....I had goosebumps most of the game.

players make a few plays at key times.. we win.

we were down by what 17? and get it back to 6 with the ball?

I have to disagree. The crowd was nothing like the crowds in attendance in the mid-90s. At times it was embarrassingly quiet, lethargic even.

Biggest difference b/w Hilton now and Hilton 10 years ago:

When we would get down by 10, the place got loud

Now we get down by 10, and you hear crickets.

Don't tell me it is about winning either. We had some really loud games in years that we only won 14 games. Hilton is still loud when we are on a run, but that is about it

And the television announcers were counting down the points he needed for the record as he was making the baskets and free throws. No excuse for the staff not knowing. The sport info folks did.

I will agree with this. People generally only cheer when they have something to cheer about. Because of many factors discussed on here ad nauseum I don't think Hilton will ever be what it once was. But it can be very good, great even, when there is a good product on the floor.
