Brackins and his future

my bad, I was unaware that it was commonly discussed. I figured that it would take the entire season to play out before there could be a solid opinion on this

Ha ha ha! We like our evidence anecdotal and circumstantial when it comes to program, coach and player evaluations around here. :biglaugh:

Re: Brackins

Good thinking.......I was thinking we were due for another one.

I heard from a friend of a dentist that he has decided to work for John Deere selling lawn equipment. For what it's worth.......:jimlad:

I heard that, too. In fact, my source said he has already called Steve Alford about his lawn tractor needs.

Brackins offense is NBA ready but his defense needs some serious work ... after tonights performance I have a bad feeling (I'm glad for him though) that he is NBA bound.

Really? I thought he had an amazing first half, but was rather bad against the double team in the second. Not saying he is going to be here next year, but I wouldn't base my opinion in anyway off last night's games.

Well there's your mistake... there don't have to be SOLID opinions on something for there to be a discussion here!

Some have suggested that his best option is probably to declare without signing an agent. He can find out what his real worth is and if it isn't where he expects it to be he can return to Ames and try and raise his value.

I'd tell Craig that he's dumb, right to his face, if he doesn't at least test the waters to whatever extent he can and still maintain his eligibility. I want him to stay very badly but only if it's good for Craig as well. I personally think he can't go wrong either way with a slight advantage to staying and building his body.

His offense is def. not NBA ready. He still makes some horrible decisions when double teamed and needs to improve on his passing.

Also, the NBA is almost a full contact sport these days. He's going to be pushed and shoved a lot more and with a lot less fouls called on him.

I could see if he wanted to leave early, but if he truly wants to make an impact at the NBA-level, he'll need to get a little stronger, condition more, work on his passing, work on his defense, and work on making better decisions when double teamed...

I always thought that testing the waters without an agent would give you somewhat of a false reading either way. Everyone else has someone out there pimping them 24/7, while you basically just have your name on the list. If we are to believe that agents actually do something for you, then you would think that factor alone would drop you a few places at least. Still, I suppose it doesn't hurt anything to go through the process and see what happens.

I think Craig is awesome, but I've never had the sense that he would go really high in the draft just yet. With Fizer and Tinsley, it was pretty apparent to me. I think he goes much higher after one more year. I cannot imagine him staying beyond that.

I honestly think Craig would benefit more by staying here a year. He's not a great ball handler so won't do much from the perimeter in the NBA and if you watch a lot of the games this year he got pushed out of the block rather easily so wouldn't be effective in the post either. Most the time he ends up getting his entry pass almost clear out at the 3 point line and then backs his way down or shoots a jumper. Guys are too strong and too athletic for him to do that in the NBA. I just don't think he has a true position in the NBA with his current skill set. Stay another year, gain more strength, and work on his jumper and ball handling and he will definitely be a lottery pick. I guess the good thing about if he comes out this year is that we will get to see him playing with or against the Iowa Energy a few years from now as the NBADL is where the NBA develops their players now and he needs some more development.

Craig's a great player and he's been a great ambassador for ISU. I am much appreciative for that however... I do not believe leaving is a "in his best interest" lock, as some of you claim. Yes, the money is there, and yes, he could suffer injury, but if you're a competitor you have to believe you will improve, and benefit from a further year of development, in a smaller pond (college basketball). As for injury, get insurance, protect yourself. If you get injured is probably as likely not career ending as career ending. Either way the insurance will be there.

The wild card is family, is there a pressing need? If there is no fan should accost him for trying to help. Right now, Craig leaving now seems like its edging down the path Stinson took a few years ago. But hey, I'm a fan (what do you expect). Craig you're one of my favorites, good luck in your decision making.

Also, I forgot to mention that his defense needs to come a long way before he is able to guard NBA talent. He was constantly put on the other teams weakest post player this year so we could keep him out of foul trouble and he could save his energy for the offensive end of the court. If you watch him he doesn't move to well laterally on D and a bunch of times this year guys would go around him pretty easily. Now I don't know whether that's b/c he can't play D or just b/c coach told him to be cautious on that end of the court so he doesn't get in foul trouble.

Yes Post number 2 sez it all.....

btw if I were a student at isu and someone offered to make me a millionaire...I'd leave in a heartbeat...

The NBA game is different then the college game. You need to get in and learn that game as soon as you can. Brackins is 21 and ready to make money playing. The NBA doesn't like drafting older players. Last year only 3 players were drafted in the first round that were 22. Rush was the first one selected at 14 and he was there only because he tore up his knee during NBA camps the year before. By the way, he came back and had a great year and helped guide KU to the NC. Then was drafted in the exact same spot SI.com had him projected the year before. It's very hard to move up the draft board by staying another year and getting older in college. The other 22 year olds went 22nd and the final pick of the first round and he didn't end up making a roster. The NBA is not a league you wait to play in unless your name is Tyler and you go to UNC and you have very little upside. In the long run it will be good for ISU because every player wants to get to that level asap and ISU can show recruits that they can get them there.
