In the best-case scenario (two Big 12 teams to the BCS), in order for that to happen, essentially the Holiday bowl would have to pass over MU and TAMU and take ISU. I could see them passing over MU, but given the much larger fanbase of TAMU, why would they pass over TAMU for ISU?
If only one Big 12 team goes to the BCS, the Holiday Bowl would have to pass over three teams, the third one likely being UT or BU. They are not going to pass over UT for ISU. With RGIII, and BU having a significantly better record than ISU, that's not going to happen either.
It's not only fans who will buy tickets and travel to the game, it's also potential TV audience. The more TV audience, the better TV and advertising deal the bowl gets.
ISU to the Holiday bowl just doesn't seem to be a very realistic scenario.
i'm convinced we get 2 BCS teams due to SOS...so then it'll be down to us, A&M, and Mizzou..there's already rumors that the Big 12 will sen Mizzou to NYC...so it'll be down to us and A&M...the conference will do alot of persuading to have us in before A&M because they are leaving and the money the conference will get is lowered..
makes too much sense really
EDIT: Also the point of their coach leaving is very valid in this..their fan base won't be as excited to go to San Diego as we would...i'll gladly eat crow if we don't end up in San Diego and am thinking of putting real money on it.
