Bowl Situation Thread

In the best-case scenario (two Big 12 teams to the BCS), in order for that to happen, essentially the Holiday bowl would have to pass over MU and TAMU and take ISU. I could see them passing over MU, but given the much larger fanbase of TAMU, why would they pass over TAMU for ISU?

If only one Big 12 team goes to the BCS, the Holiday Bowl would have to pass over three teams, the third one likely being UT or BU. They are not going to pass over UT for ISU. With RGIII, and BU having a significantly better record than ISU, that's not going to happen either.

It's not only fans who will buy tickets and travel to the game, it's also potential TV audience. The more TV audience, the better TV and advertising deal the bowl gets.

ISU to the Holiday bowl just doesn't seem to be a very realistic scenario.

i'm convinced we get 2 BCS teams due to SOS...so then it'll be down to us, A&M, and Mizzou..there's already rumors that the Big 12 will sen Mizzou to NYC...so it'll be down to us and A&M...the conference will do alot of persuading to have us in before A&M because they are leaving and the money the conference will get is lowered..

makes too much sense really

EDIT: Also the point of their coach leaving is very valid in this..their fan base won't be as excited to go to San Diego as we would...i'll gladly eat crow if we don't end up in San Diego and am thinking of putting real money on it.

Strength of schedule won't matter if Michigan is in the top 14 and TCU is in the top 16. If those two things happen, the Big 12 gets 1 bid, no question about it. TCU would be an automatic bid, and Michigan brings in a ton more money than KSU or OSU (I'm not counting OU for this because if they win tonight they get in as champ, if they lose they won't get picked as a 3 loss team losing 2 of last 3 games). So Michigan would be chosen above those teams, cuz it's all about $$$.

The BCS doesn't care about SOS they care about how many fans you bring and TV audience

if Oklahoma wins, Oklahoma will get the Fiesta and Oklahoma St. will likely be behind Va Tech (ACC champ) and Stanford...so Stanford, Okie St., and TCU will get at-large bids..a team that doesn't make the conf. championship game shouldn't be in the discussion for the BCS...it will further prove that it's a joke if it gets in over Okie St.

OSU would have lost their last 2 games...and like I said, if Michigan is in top 14 and TCU in top 16, they will get the bids.

There was talk that OU may be pushing to go somewhere other than Fiesta if they win. Possibly Sugar bowl. Id assume Fiesta would select another b12 team then.

Don't they have to go to Fiesta if they win? That's the BCS tie in bowl for the Big 12 champion. I don't think they would even have the option to go to another one if they are Big 12 champions...

ya and the BCS will be even a bigger joke that a team from a weaker conference that doesn't even feature in the conf. championship game gets in over a stronger 2nd place team...though you are right that they'll probably get in but is it really the best team that can play there???isn't that the whole point of the BCS??It shouldn't be about money...it's what it is

So when do you think we should know by?

tomorrow around 7 is the BCS show...though i'm guessing our bowl will get released an will be on here around 6 or so..TV won't say anything til after the BCS is released tho

Itd be up to fiesta (and the other bowl) i think. Something about them being in the fiesta bowl 3 of the last 5 years already. Fiesta might figure they'd get more draw from a KSU or OSU than an OU that's been there a bunch already.

Totally agree, it's a joke that the Big 10 will probably get 2 teams in and the Big 12 will only get one. But that's the nature of all college sports now....MONEY. From bowls to conference re-alignment, it's turned into a business and is all about who can make the most money. And from what I understand, the BCS's sole design was to set up a championship game. Beyond that it's all about creating the best "matchups" and generating the "most interest"...ie most money.

So when do you think we should know by?

We'll probably be pretty sure of where we're going by sometime tomorrow afternoon, if not earlier. We had solid rumors of where we were going last time by late in the week before the championship game, so anytime now wouldnt surprise me.

I think the Fiesta wants Stanford. If OU wins B12 then maybe there is a deal that allows Sugar or Orange to get OU. The Sugar gets first pick so unless the deal is between Fiesta and Sugar the Sugar is likely to pick Michigan to make sure they get a "draw" and then all bets would be off

Would it help if I started perpetuating some rumors? I have a Twitter account and would love to see us in San Diego...

1) LSU
2) Oregon
3) W. Virginia
4) ACC Winner (V. Tech/Clemson)
5) B1G Winner (MSU/Wisc)
6) Big XII Winner (OU/OSU)
7) TCU (if top 16)
8) Alabama
9) Stanford
10) Michigan or Big 12 (or Boise, but i doubt it)

This really isn't looking too good for a 2nd Big 12 team...

The key is that TCU if top 16. Its by no means certain that happens, and then Mich and B12 get in.

If OSU wins I want a TCU vs OSU, or a WVU vs OSU matchup in the Fiesta. Its almost a given that Stanford is going to the Fiesta but id like to see a big 12 preview
