Bowl Situation Thread

Stewart Mandel from CNNSI just updated his bowl projections. Has us playing Purdue in the Ticket City Bowl (Dallas):

BCS pairings hold, but bowl projections full of lower-tier shakeup - Stewart Mandel - SI.com

Who would have ever guessed before the season that a big-name sportswriter would be projecting us for a January 2 bowl game!

I think the bowl people noticed more than our win against Oklahoma State. I think they noticed that we had 50k people for a packed house at the end of the season when we are 28 point underdogs. And that we stayed enthusiastic about our team, even after it went to 24-7 in the second half. Then, how could they not want a fan base that enjoys a victory as much as we did!

For all those out there who are thinking ISU could still get left out of a bowl at 6-6, right now there are 73 teams available for 70 spots. The only teams left that could get eligible are UConn who'd have to win at Cincy (probably not) and Hawaii would have to beat BYU (toss up).

Mandel's predictions actually look pretty accurate. The only teams that get left out of the bowl picture are 7-5 Western KY and 6-6 Eastern Michigan, 6-6 Ball State.

Eastern Michigan is not bowl eligible. They beat 2 D1-AA teams. There are 72 teams total.

I would LOVE to see RG3 destory the hawks... ohhhh that would be sweet. Baylor 42 - Iowa 17

It would make a heck of a Christmas present!!!

I don't think their defensive backs would be able to handle the speed of the Baylor runners and cover their receivers. It would be brutal. Hope it happens.

TicketCity may be played in January but it is a bowl that usually pits the second to last bowl eligible Big 10 team against the 7th bowl eligible team from C-USA. Payout is only 1.2 million. Even the last Big 12 bowl is 2 million payout.

Not super glamorous but cool nonetheless I suppose.

Don't confuse my carefully chosen facts that make me feel good with relevant other facts that don't.

It puts a smile on my face to say Iowa State and January 2nd bowl together.

I think for a lot of fans/players perspective it probably boils down to TX vs NY

I can. Crappy bowls are in January now and the Ticket City is one of them. With that being said I am still glad we made it to a crappy bowl.

Again, don't ruin my carefully chosen facts that make me feel good with relevant other facts that don't.

Haha fair enough I will let you enjoy. I will also be enjoying this bowl as it is going to be a fun bowl and a good trip in a historic stadium.

70 teams go to a bowl.

Today, 71 teams are eligible.

4 are on the bubble:

ACC- All in or out.

Big XII- All in or out.

B1G- All in or out.

Big East-
-Pitt 5-6, Cuse left.
-Cuse 5-6, Pitt left.
-UConn 5-6, Cincy left.
-South Florida, 5-7, WV left. OUT

Independents- All already in or out.

Pac 12- UCLA- I believe they petitioned the NCAA and will be in a bowl with 6-7 record (assuming they lose to Oregon). IN

C-USA-
All in or out.

MWC- All in or out.

MAC-
-All either in or out.

SEC-
All in or out.

Sun Belt- All already in or out.

WAC-
-Hawaii 6-6. Play 13 games. Must win last game vs BYU.

Only 3 more teams could possibly get eligible. That's 74 possible, with 70 spots.

Just kind of a running tally to help keep track.

(No USC, now no Miami)

71 in. Three more possible. 72 for sure once pitt or cuse gets in. I think it will be a couple sunbelt teams will get left out.

.

The NCAA has granted UCLA the ability to play in a bowl game even if they lose to Oregon and according to the UCLA A.D. they will go to the game even with the losing record.
