Baxter? Our new coach is named Baxter???
What bothers me the most is ISU didn't offer him 5 million per year. Than we can talk about Coach K esqu. I'd of done the same. It's just how this all works. Maybe it could've been handled better. But it wasnt. Move on.
A little off topic, but one of the few things I've enjoyed throughout the Fred-to-the-NBA process has been the Hawk fans coming out of the woodwork acting like kids on Christmas Eve, retweeting every Fred/Bulls tidbit with glee. Even saw a few of them say that now Iowa can get back to being the "premier" basketball program in the state. Anyone else think it'll be funny when ISU coach X beats them as regularly as Fred did?
Disappointed about how this whole thing has hurt recruiting the past few years. If Fred would have been committed to ISU CD may be on his way to campus. We may be set next year but after that the cupboard is bare.
"The cupboard is bare".....I would say more than bare I would say rock bottom last place empty...I hope the Great Otz can recruit...............Otherwise its MCDoormatLand for the 2nd time....lol
What bothers me the most is the way we heard about all of this and how long it took. I am not sure how I could have expected different in this day and age. I knew Fred was going to go the NBA at some point, I guess I just expected it to be a cleaner and more transparent break instead of this cloak and dagger method he has put us through. I am starting to think this was starting to go down last season and may be one of the reasons our players were quitting on him.
What bothers me most is that guys like Hoiberg, Sanderson and Gable, our golden boys, used ISU as a stepping stone job. It happens, I know. Just wish a coach who has a little success here would want to stay here ... not use us. I guess McCarney fit that mold, but he was fired.
^Isn't Diallo going to be a one and done?
Gable only had one college coaching job. Iowa. He took that job opening because Harold Nichols wasn't ready to retire. He didn't use ISU as a stepping stone job.
D'oh. I think you are right on that.
True, that includes the opportunity to walk into a good coaching situation in the NBA.

At the end of the day, he provided the fans with five exciting years of basketball. What more could we ask?
Rhoads wants to stay. What bothers me most is that guys like Hoiberg, Sanderson and Gable, our golden boys, used ISU as a stepping stone job. It happens, I know. Just wish a coach who has a little success here would want to stay here ... not use us. I guess McCarney fit that mold, but he was fired.
What bothers me most is when people say he doesn't owe anything to ISU or the fans.
He would still be an assistant somewhere if Jamie hadn't taken a chance on him. The "love affair" with the fans is a big reason he was written about so much. The atmosphere (fans) are what brought all the prime time games to Hilton and a big reason they were unbeatable at home.
He did his part by winning. But without ISU and the fans none of that would have been possible. I'm not saying he needed to stay here his entire career. He just needed to accomplish ONE of the team goals before moving onto his own.
