Was really born as a neutral fan. Mom and Uncle and some other family members went to ISU. I on the other hand started liking Iowa. Cheered for them in the Capital one bowl and was up-hauled when they were blown out by Ia State in 05 in Ames while at the game.

Then came the college years...

Realized Iowa didnt have anything i wanted as a field of study. Went to Iowa City and did not care for the campus. I chose to go to ISU for Engineering. My final conversion was complete after attending Iowa football games and having numerous people in my friends dorm say i was "gay" for going to state. They couldnt come up with a response when i said "well its gay that you go to Iowa." The fact of the matter is that the extreme bigotry towards anything not Iowa is ridiculous. Some hawk fans can be the worst fans in the nation after experiencing some college athletics.

Now i consider my self rooting for the good guys. go state.

I didn't really "convert" to ISU, I merely added them to my allegiance of being a Buckeyes fan since I was little. I grew up in NW Iowa and to be honest, I never even heard of ISU athletics until I saw Fred Hoiberg playing in the sweet 16 one year. I remember growing up that Iowa and Nebraska were always on tv, and you never heard of anything ISU. Its good to see we have increased our exposure, so NW Iowa kids growing up now can at least be aware that they have a better alternative than cheering for the huskers.

The one thing that is obvious from this thread is that many of the converted fans, converted because they went to ISU. Unfortunately for us, the majority of the "jerk" Hawk fans I know went to UNI or a small private school like Luther and Wartburg. Since Iowa has so many fans that never went to school there, it is going to be tough to ever catch them in financial support.

But wouldn't you think that since so many of them didn't attend school there, they wouldn't be able to get jobs that paid well enough for them to donate to the AD? Or does UI accept donations in terms of french fries and hamburgers?

I was born and raised a Clone, btw.

I don't know what I am....I was born in Boone. My dad and my brother both went to Iowa State but I never paid attention to basketball or football before I met my husband. So I wouldn't say I'm converted because I wasn't a fan of anything before.

I don't know if I was a born Cyclone fan, but I do know that as soon as I was old enough to listen and comprehend conversations I knew I hated the Squawkeyes.

I would like to say that I was born a Cyclone, but there is picture evidence to the contrary.

I converted once I got to Ames. My dislike has grown by the year.

I was converted. I was never officially not a fan. I went to games my entire life. IT was just when I came to school, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed. I always rooted for ISU before, but, never would have said they were "My team." Well, there's no question they are now.

Your giving hawk fans too much credit must do not attend school...well I take that back, they attend school but it is work, you know mopping the floors, taking out the trash, cleaning the pubes off the uninals.

I grew up in Salt Lake City and was a BYU fan but then migrated to being a Ute fan instead...

I moved to Iowa in high school in 1989 and it made me sick how everyone I knew worshiped Iowa as if they were a professional team. So I didn't root for either school and kept following the Utes until my wife went to Vet. school @ Iowa State. After living in Ames for 4 years I now consider myself a die-hard Cyclone going on 8 years :) Looking forward to the home-and-home with Utah!!

Just remember - you married her...

No, I didn't. It was one of those arranged catalog things. I failed to read the fine print that noted there was not a return policy.

In other news...our couch is really comfortable. And, it's red. Not a converted red either - it was born that way!

Born a Cyclone, although my old man only watched sports after we starting playing them in HS so I'm embarrassed to say I'm 28 years old and the first Cyclone I remember cheering for is the Mayor. Him and TD locked me in for life, oh and going there for school ... that too.
