Big 12 QB controversy

I'm not sure of the teams being listed as having a controversy, but Tech doesnt have one. Michael Brewer will be our starter, and there really isnt abquestion about that.

Most coaches already know, but just dont want to announce it til the fall.

Serious question, How do you guys think you will do this year with Kliff?

Also - Didn't we have some stat where we won every game when we switched the starting QB from the week before?

Going back to 2011: Jantz gets win in first start vs. UNI.

Barnett gets win in first start vs. Tech.

2012: Jantz starts and defeats Tulsa.

Barnett starts for the first time of the season and upsets TCU.

Jantz gets the start again and beats Baylor.

Richardson doesn't start but plays most of the game in a win over Kansas.

So we basically do have that stat. The exception would be Richardson because he did not "start" vs. Kanas.

It's quite amazing we even made a bowl game last year with three different starting QBs. How many teams can claim that?

You'd expect it to be better this year with a go-to guy, but who is really going to be shocked if we look like a different offense every game just like last year. I think we'll see some games where Sam looks like a Heisman-caliber player but others more reminiscent of Barnett's final drives against Kansas State.

Oklahoma State did so also. Won 8 games.

Honestly I'm a bit nervous this staff is so young. I'm thinking 6-6 highly possible. There is the talent on this team to get that, anything more great. Anything less a bit let down but what I really want to see that was non existent under the previous staff is improvement throughout the season.

I think we will be somewhere around 7-5, with a really good possibility of 8-4, or 6-6.

It will all depend on Brewer, and how our defense adjusts to another scheme.

Brewer has more talent, and leadership capabilities than any other QB at Tech in the last 13 years, not named Graham Harrell.

He also has more athleticism than any other QB we've started, including Harrell...but he's smaller.

He's a 3 generation Longhorn Legacy, and really isnt your typical starting QB, in that he has grown up around UT starting QB's (he had some great offers out of HS, and UT offered him as a greyshirt), and knows how to lead. Brewer is highly intelligent, very good mobility, and can throw on the run better than 99% of the QB's out there. He's smaller (about 6'0-6'1), and has had trouble with passes getting batted down. That could be an issue.

How he develops will be key. Tech has the offensive players to be really good, but it might be too early. 2014/2015 might be the years where Tech can become an annual 8-4/9-3 team again...or better.

Make no mistake about it...Brewer is very good, and will learn quickly.

Our OL needs a lot more depth, though.

Kingsbury will be very good, I think. Will take him a couple years to get comfortable in the position. In time, he will be better than Leach, I think. He's more grounded, and not as arrogant.

He wasnt my first choice (that was Chad Morris, who was Brewer's HS coach), but I am satisfied with Kingsbury.
