Big-12 / Pac-12 possible merger

You wonder if CBS really wants to get into the college football market or not. SEC is on CBS through 2023 and then they are done. They have CBS Sports Network and of course big CBS to play games on. If remaining 8 were combined with ACC or Pac 12 remnants CBS and Fox could combine to pay decent money to those schools for lots of content that could span all sorts of time zones. These schools need to get additional media to compete for rights otherwise the ESPN monopoly will be basically complete.

I doubt CBS wants to stay totally out of college football. I think they were paying pretty well for the SEC game of the week, and when ESPN tripled them or whatever, they were probably like, WTAF? There really aren't any normal shows or alternative sports that are going to draw anywhere nearly as well as college football on a Saturday afternoon, so I'll bet they're looking for options.

How about just the "Pacific Conference"

Simple. Classy. Like Iowa State.
See post #12. You're exactly right. The connotation being that the conference is comprised of the best from the Missouri river to the Pacific Ocean. It's perfect.

Why isn't CBS going after ESPN for something along the lines of insider trading. They bid on the deal knowing darn well Texas and OU would be in the league. CBS didn't. Completely unfair bid. Again, why isn't CBS raising a big stink about this?

I know in my head that the P12 would be worse than the B1G in terms of money, geography, prestige. But, being able to stick with some of the old Big8, have games in Colorado, Arizona, the coast etc... does hold a lot of heart appeal.

I would bet a nickel this would start as a scheduling/TV agreement while the Big12 media stuff gets sorted over a couple years, and it evolves to be more formal down the road.

Just have to make sure it happens before they can sort out something similar with the B1G.

I mean, isn't a little comical to keep "Pacific" in the conference name for a something that contain schools in... Iowa and Kansas?
No. Like I said in a previous post it's about the Missouri (or Mississippi) River to the coast. We could punch up the logo to allude to this like they did by putting a mountain the current Pac logo for UU & CU (which are pretty darn far from the coast)...

Probably comes down to whether they can prove it, how much they might have to spend in a lawsuit, and what they'd actually stand to gain if they won. If ESPN had that foreknowledge, one would think that an actual crime may have occurred.

Whatever name we come up with, it should encompass coast to coast as the smart move would be to have the first super league comprised of ACC, B12, and Pac12 schools covering all timezones. Chew on that SEC.

I think the PAC12 would want ISU. Hear me out here.

WSU>ISU, alamo bowl loss
Oregon>WSU
ISU>Oregon, Fiesta bowl win
Therefore ISU is better and desirable for the PAC12. Am I doing this right? lol

Two divisions the Lewis and the Clark. Honestly I would like to see a system where the divisions are reseeded each year based on previous years records. That way you don't get a heavy one sided division like the B1G East. Also a potential truer Conference Championship game. Time to think out side of the box.
