The Big East kicked Temple out in 2004 for being terrible at football.
Clemson and Florida State were targeted to join the Big 12 (18) that have won National Championships in football. Their additions would really put us in play as a power conference in Football. We really are fortunate the Pac 12 waited until this fall to have maybe their best season ever. 4 teams in Top 10. And 3 more teams (OSU, WSU and Colorado) who are now ranked or have been ranked and are enjoying the most success they've had in years.
Iowa State has an opportunity next season to get off to a good start in the new Big 12. I guess Utah and Colorado will be the favorites.
Makes sense. It would just be for football. Conferences would still exist for the so-called Olympic sports.Chip Kelly's idea is my new favorite model.
64 P5 teams: 1 division. Everyone is independent. 1 championship
64 G5 teams: 1 division. Everyone is independent. 1 championship
Who would you schedule if you were Iowa State AD?
I'll take a shot at this:
Week 1- FCS
Week 2- Iowa
Week 3- G5
Weeks 4-12- Kansas, K-State, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State
But every year I'd replace a few of those teams above to play a game in Texas, Florida, and Ohio or Cali
In my opinion, the bulk of our schedule should be close to home. Sprinkle in a few long road trips to boost our recruiting presence in those areas.
I don’t think those two are joining the Big12…Clemson and Florida State were targeted to join the Big 12 (18) that have won National Championships in football. Their additions would really put us in play as a power conference in Football.
So cross-divisional games are still in play if it's split into P5 & G5 leagues? I thought maybe it'd be totally separate unless I misunderstood Kelly's concept. (He didn't really elaborate other than to say the two hold separate championshps).Chip Kelly's idea is my new favorite model.

I'll take it a step further. Regular season ends the week before Thanksgiving. 24 team playoff begins Thanksgiving weekend. Top 8 seeds get a bye. 2 games on Thu, 3 Fri, 3 Saturday.
Dec 2nd: Round of 16
Dec 9th: Round of 8
Dec 16: Final Four
NYD: National Championship
I'll give my opinion, I don't know what his thoughts were.So cross-divisional games are still in play if it's split into P5 & G5 leagues? I thought maybe it'd be totally separate unless I misunderstood Kelly's concept. (He didn't really elaborate other than to say the two hold separate championshps).
So the SEC can continue to schedule lighter than everyone else and get away with it?I'll give my opinion, I don't know what his thoughts were.
I say, first of all, it probably doesn't matter how many teams are in P5 or G5? It could be 100/50 or whatever.
But, as far as I would have it, schedule whoever you want. If you want to schedule Drake, go ahead.
If targeted means "joining" then you are correct.I don’t think those two are joining the Big12…
Utah will likely always be the favorites, IMO. At least as long as Wittingham is there. Dude is a great coach, has a great setup and program. They were good under Meyer but he's really sustained it, developed it and they are IMO the Pac 12's best.We really are fortunate the Pac 12 waited until this fall to have maybe their best season ever. 4 teams in Top 10. I can't imagine if it was a 64 team division that there would be 12 games. Maybe 10 instead and then FCS games wouldn't count anymore.
