Best places to study on campus?

If you're in the library...then go down to the stacks. Always quiet down there man. If you're in the main lobby, or the 2nd floor by the stairs its going to be a madhouse.

I used to love the room on the 2nd floor of the MU next to the curved staircase. It had tables and some crappy vinal chairs in it. I think it has been remodled into offices now though. My room mate and I spent many a night there studying. I also liked random classrooms in Black Engineering. I went to the periodical room in the library when I thought I should be studying but I wasn't. I went to that mural room in the library to study too. I also studied in a small study room near the arches in Friley.

There used to be a VAX computer lab in Sweeney (that south entrance) that no one would be in. I used to log into project vincent there. It is super quiet, and probably not around anymore.

Studied in the mural room a few times. Probably a little noisy for some people's tastes now with the coffee shop right next to it, but I like a little background noise.

Agronomy Hall has some nice areas towards the east end of the building. Big tables and really quiet. I worked for a research project when i was in school so I could go into the forage lab and study too.

I was a graphic designer, so, naturally, I did most of my study in the design building. It's a great place to study, wide-open and beautiful at night with all the windows. It's also nice to be in the company of other designers at 4 in the morning with enough coffee flowing through our systems to fuel a fighter jet. I'm pretty sure architecture students didn't have to pay for housing as they were there 24-7.

Do Hawkeyes really study?

Do Hawkeyes really study?

No... I lied.

What I actually did was walk around campus looking for students studying/discussing a subject other than graphic design. I would butt in and try to turn the discussion into something that had to do with design. It was fun! :jimlad:

 It needed done.

I remember one time I was in the planetarium for an astronomy lab... the TA was pointing out all these boring constellations, it was brutal. So I raised my hand and said "check out that group of stars over there, they look just like Nile Kinnick!" The TA replied with, "what's a Nile Kinnick?" Needless to say...I got up and walked out.

My TAC officers took us officer candidates to the Science Center planetarium for a presentation on stars, which was supposed to build into something about navigating by starlight.

Of course, when you take an exhausted bunch of people, put them in reclining chairs, and turn off the lights, nobody knows much about the presentation by the time it's over.

They may or may not have looked like Nile Kinnick. I have no idea. But I know what my eyelids look like.

My own apartment was nice and quiet so I was there mostly, but tv, pc and snacks distracted me a lot! Otherwise mostly it was the top floor of the design building in my studio out of the way of all the wacky designers and their oddball projects.

As an undergrad the place I went had these tiny rooms in the library with nothing but white walls and a table with a chair. Good for focus but always reminded me a bit of some type of sensory deprivation punishment.
