Best kept secret restaurants in Iowa

Worth the drive. My mom graduated with the owner when they won the award and they haven't changed the recipe on the tenderloin since then. It's huge!!!

They moved into a different building a couple years ago but the food hasn't changed. It's not your standard hammered out hubcap tenderloin!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!? It's Taco Freaking Tico!

You need to road trip, friend. Put on some salsa music and go gorge yourself on hard shells. They taste like a little slice of Americanized Mexican heaven.
I don't get back to Mason City very often, but I'll stop the next time I'm there.

Harveys in Redfield
Canteen in Ottumwa
Twisted Tail just north of the I80/680 triangle.
Twisted tail does have really good food. The locals would really rather people stop coming there though. Might have been said but rusty duck in dexter is/was good. BarnBurner in Brayton. Eat at the place in hamlin quite a bit, never that impressed with their tenderloin. The pizza place in Adair that won best pizza isnt all that great imo either but I think it depends on how you like your pizza. Flour Mill in elk horn is pretty good. Also larsens in elkhorn another place he supposedly has the #1 tenderloin in Iowa.

Bluff Lake Catfish Farm in Maquoketa. Funnest part is trying to find this place, that's why its a secret! You've got to drive through Maquoketa Caves State Park and basically down some guy's driveway to get there...

All you can eat catfish Friday's, all you can eat haddock fillets Saturday and all you can eat butterfly shrimp & fried chicken on Sunday's. Amazing place...

WW Homestead makes the best cheese curds I've had, anywhere.

It's even better when they're fried. If you ever make it to the Howard County Fair, there's a vendor (based in Cresco) called Reno's Smokehouse that uses WW Homestead for their cheese balls. Holy ****, are they good.

I was going to stop at the Winchester during RAGBRAI but went to Hammy's instead. I've heard good things about Green Valley, but have yet to get there.
Going to green valley in an hour to eat

It is hard to find. Best go with someone who has been there before.

I don't know if it's much of a secret, but Morg's in Waterloo is some of the best breakfast I've ever eaten. Just a tiny hole in the wall downtown in a nondescript building.

George's Diner in Fort Dodge. It's a real small place, but very good burgers and tenderloins

First time I went there, I started to wonder if my parents were planning on killing me. You literally drive into the middle of nowhere.

I don't think the NW Steakhouse qualifies, as it's pretty consistently in top steakhouse of the Midwest lists.

But still, repping my hometown of Mason City, I'll go with Pete's Kitchen or Birdsell's Ice Cream.

That Place also has one at Ceresco, NE.
How about the Pink Poodle at Crescent?
