Best Fireworks?

I saw both Ames' and Knoxville's this year and I thought Knoxville's was better.

It did.....was less than 10 minutes and no finale. Waiting for more information but I'm guessing they probably had an electronic malfunction of some kind. No one knew for sure what to do when they just stopped. Everyone waited a few minutes, then started getting up to leave. It was really lame. Definitely hitting up Racoon Park or Waukee next year.

Waukee was fairly odd from where we watched it. Kind of odd pacing, had what you'd think was its 'finale' but then a few random fireworks after that, so you weren't sure if it was done or not.

Lake Panorama had a good display again this year. I love lake fireworks. Never really a bad view whereever you anchor to watch them.

Heard same thing about Udale. Hoping it was a glitch, they usually put on a decent show...if you get a good spot to watch not obstructed by trees.

I wasn't there, but some friends of mine said Urbandale's show completely sucked this year. What's the word?

It was Urbandale's worst display by far from any other year. Luckily I live on a hill and could at least see Clive's and Windsor Heights. They started before Urbandale's and ended after.

Urbandale was slow with no finale....still waiting.

I went to the ICubs game Thursday night and thought they put on a really good show.

We stuck around and could see the Yankee Doodle Pops show and I thought the ICubs show was much better.

Always been my impression too. That is, the ICubs actually have better fireworks than Yankee Doodle Pops. We were downtown Thursday too and again, this was the case. I really think Yankee Doodle Pop is about the orchestra and the setting...which is great...but the fireworks themselves are just OK.

Best I've seen in Iowa is definitely Clear Lake....by far (and I've seen Urbandale's in the past when many claim theirs is best in metro). This past Saturday's show was just over 30 minutes, and the appeared to have 4-6 platforms on the lake they were using as launching sites. Granted, it is no Washington DC, but I'd put their show up against almost anyone's.

For a town of 600 people, Grand Mound usually has a pretty good show.

Absolutely, I beleive there was a good article in the Quad City Times as well. We live about 45 minutes away from Grand Mound (DeWit area), and have always heard raves about the show from friends of ours. So we went this year.

Yep, it was very very good. Well worth the tavel for it because it was beter than Cedar Rapids' or Dubuque's in my opinion.

When I was a kid (it was still considered the best around) they had one barge they shot from. Now they have 3, plus I think there were 3 other pre-staged rigs for the finale. These were closer to the shore and the way the wind was blowing we got a fair amount of ash on us.

I will say, as good as they were, 30+ minutes was too much for a kid 2 hours past his bed time :)

Belmond, Iowa is easily the best. Check out 4G's Pyrotechnics on facebook. Lots of videos and pictures. They posted I think 4 different videos from this years 4th of July. Small crew of 8 guys puts on an amazing, amazing show.

Bawbie, you and I must be from the same neck of the woods....
