Ben Bruns: Mission Statement

Absolutely true. I can't believe I'm doing this BUT; I submit Gary Pinkel as an example. All the pundits had Pinkel on the hot seat for a couple years before the big improvements came.

It's a good question; how long will the fanbase wait? Personally I'm ready to give Rhoads a lot of latitude if we see obvious improvements in year four.
How long did it take Fry to turn around Iowa?

And then there was Tim Brewster hired in 2007 and now on his way out. Similar at Notre Dame.

A fanbase will be patient if improvements can be seen.

Next year, the offense and defense should be better.

I dont see the offense better, the defense yes undoubtedly.

At this rate?
I think the rate at which CPR is "turning" things around is ahead of many of CPR's peers. It is very well possible that CPR could be .500 after his first two years of inheriting a program with two transition recruiting classes and turnover being worked through, all while playing the toughest schedule in the nation.
People are being far too emotional about a few blow out losses to BCS bowl teams, one of which we lead after 1 quarter.

I do agree that going to 9 conference games is bad timing in regards to CPR's efforts. If it is long term, dropping the Iowa game is a quick solution imo. Regardless, we will not see a schedule harder than this, but we will have better rosters.

Only the whiniest fan base in America can find a way to critcize free content from a former Iowa State All American.

You need to get out more imo. I have not come across a BCS fanbase so willing to disapprove of homerism.

Gary Pinkel is not admissible as evidence on the grounds that he is Gary Pinkel.

Seriously, though, The Pink is a good example, but his situation is a little different in that Missouri is a state with a bigger population, two major market metro areas, and MU is the only D-I program in the state.

I agree, it should take longer at ISU. CPR is ahead of the curve imo.

We would be seeing the huge outcry from fans if...

- We had won the K-State game. Not stopping the run and offensive penalties/mistakes killed us.
- We didn't make it look like a high school senior picking on a 3rd grader when playing Iowa, Utah and Oklahoma. Didn't expect to win those, did expect to at least appear we could compete
- Our offense had a pulse against teams not named Texas Tech.

The problem is now we have already lost a game we needed to win and should have won. We have been completely run off the field in our last 2 games (3 total) and have another coming up that may be a similar result (with Nebraska looming yet on the schedule). Missouri, a game some felt we could win, looks like a game we may be very luck to be within 10 points by half. CU is a "should win" game but on the road at a place we struggle. To make matters worse, our offense has been absolutely unexciting to watch in every game this year against Texas Tech.

Any confidence and reassurance the team was on the right track after the Texas Tech game has been smashed in the last two weeks. These guys need to find a way to get it back - but this coming weekend is not a likely candidate for that to happen.

I saw plenty of spirit on defense against Oklahoma. We were out-played, but we kept playing hard. As I watched the Big 12 Replay last night, I was surprised by how hard we seemed to be playing, even in the 4th quarter. I will take that as a good sign that maybe some good things are yet to come this season.

Spirit/playing hard and confidence in individual abilities/team abilities/the system are very different things.

I think guys like Lattimer, Klein, and Bruns can make a big impact.

Personally, I was encouraged to see how hard guys were playing, even when getting pounded. If we consistently beat the other team in terms of character, we may also win some games we wouldn't otherwise.
