Beach Vacation

Recently semi invited to go to HI with in-laws for a family vacation. with our what will be a 4 & 1.5 yr old. That seems like the opposite of a good time beach vacation to me.

Do your in-laws watch and play and interact with the Grandkids? Pretty sweet deal to vacation, get accommodations, and some babysitting services provided so you can get a bit of relaxation. Versus staying home and taking care of the kids by yourself. I would say Vacation with In-Laws is a pretty good deal IMO. Depends on how you look at it.

Unfortunately, I have to go to Hawaii in October for work for seven days. I do appreciate the fact that my company is also paying my wife's way. Going to miss the KSU game. Can't remember the last time I missed an ISU home game and tailgating. I've been to Hawaii three times already but my wife never been there. So I guess it's a good trade off, even though we both bleed cardinal and gold.

I'm usually somewhat cheap when it comes to travel but earlier this year we decided to splurge a little and damn it's going to be hard to not go back. We stayed at a place called Coco Plum Island Resort in Belize and it was amazeballs. No kids, about 20 huts, excellent staff, and the best water I've ever experienced.

We are headed to Hilton Head Island for a week. We have rented a Villa on the beach. Adult kids and their significant others are joining us. We plan to take some day trips to Charleston and Savannah. It has been a while since we all vacationed together. We are really looking forward to it.
We did this a few years ago for spring break vaca with our daughters, four days in HH at beachfront condo and then spent the rest of the week in Charleston. Beautiful area. Grab at least one dinner at The Salty Dog and I'd recommend hitting Harbourtown, lots of cool little shops and restaurants.

Taking kids is a trip, leaving kids at home is a vacation.
That depends on what you're planning on going/ doing. Don't go to Disney world and expect to have fun. My daughter has been great at Fort Myers Beach with a beach, a pool, and wildlife activities. Things we all enjoy. But i guess it's how you set expectations of the trip too.
We left our daughter with grandma when we went to Hawaii when she was 5, but now i want to go back and take her so she gets to experience it.

The answer to the first question is generally no. The grandparents do not and other family will have their own kids. Also some health issues with a grandparent where they need to be watched like a hawk because they think they are more capable than they are. Almost dropped the baby last time they held. We'd all be paying our own way.

But I do get your point because we're going on a car trip this summer and taking my mom who is very interactive and helpful. I would go with her to HI! But idk about 9 hrs of plane with 2 little kids. A few yrs maybe.

We took a family vacation to Savannah/Hilton Head/Charleston when my kids were about middle school age. We like the combination of Hilton Head and Charleston. This trip will be a little different with four 20 somethings. I know we are packing a lot of alcohol.

You got room for a +1?

Florida panhandle/Gulf Coast of Alabama is where it’s at. Much more laidback that south FL, beautiful white sand, great fishing options. Destin, Pensacola, Ft Walton, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores are all great.

We went to Gulf Shores last summer and we are going back. We loved how family friendly everything was.

Maui is amazing but not great for beaches specifically. Hyatt Zilara in Cancun is a pricey but a great all inclusive resort. I think we left the resort once in a seven night stay, all rooms are ocean view, the pool is huge so it never felt crowded, service was great, and buffalo calamri for brunch turned a couple hangovers.

If you're in Mexico you want to leave the resort as little as possible anyways. When we checked in at our resort in Riviera Maya they basically told us not to leave unless it was on a bus tour during the day because it wasn't safe. Some of our group decided they wanted to go to a nightclub in a nearby town one evening and sure enough they got robbed. Fortunately no one was hurt. This was about 10 years ago when it wasn't as bad as it is now.

We watch our Grandkids so their parents can get away if they wish. And we have had some Whole Family Vacations. We use that time to play and build our relationships with the Grandkids. And it is a rewarding gift to our own kids. As well as ourselves. That is the way my Wife’s and my Parents were as well. A lot of fun.

Contact Holiday Inn Club Vacations Cape Canaveral Beach Resort and see if you can get into a Signature Villa. Fly Allegiant (or whatever) to Sanford, drive 62 miles to resort. Has adult only pool as well as a water park for all. Easy, easy to the beach. Restaurants at the nearby Port Canaveral canal where many people come to board cruise ships. Also many eateries in nearby Cocoa Beach and Cocoa. From resort can watch cruise ships coming and going, watch any Kennedy Space Center launches that may be scheduled. glimpse a submarine or 2 coming/going at the Navy sub pen, burn to a crisp on the beach, take the gambling ship out to international waters, visit Patrick Air Force Base, visit Kennedy Space Center, boat tour on the Indian River to see Manatees, chill out in the super luxury Signature Villa you are paying dearly for. Or buzz into Orlando - for everything!

Were they pretty drunk? Act careless and unaware? Do dumb things to attract attention? Just as well put a bullseye on you in any seedy nightclub in any city, anywhere. Those looking to rob will find you an easy target. Use your head, you will have no problems. I do not recommend late nights in town. Go back to your resort to get blind stinking drunk. Common sense.

K. I'll see if I can dig up their contact info so you can give THEM the dad speech. I wasn't involved in the incident.
