Basketball Walk-Ons

6'0" 185
Small forward
6th man for my undefeated JV team junior year
Excellent at taking charges
Led the state in 3 point percentage senior year (1-1)
Not the last person on the bench for varsity team
Can touch the rim
Good at uncontested layups
Scrimmaged against Ben Lamaak in high school
Can spin a basketball on my finger
Lost my eligibility 4 years ago
You should be trying out for a walk-on with the Harlem Globetrotters!

  • 5'10" 180
  • Plate and seven screws in left knee severely limits speed, agility, and vertical plus compels me to avoid contact at all costs.
  • Due for a colonoscopy next year.
  • Could dunk on 8' rim in college if I had plenty of runway.
  • Absolutely no handle -- opponents could steal the ball from me by simply thinking about it. From the bench.
  • Career 38% on uncontested layups.
  • Highlights include scoring 20 in an intramural game at State gym and receiving a "nice shooting" comment from an Iowa State walk-on after pick-up game at Lied.
  • Last time I shot a basketball, I dealt an air ball from the free throw line.
  • I do bleed cardinal and gold, though. So I've got that going for me. Which is nice.

Position - Center
Height - 6'2 1/2
Weight - Round Mound of Rebound - Big enough to run over all you skinny punks who weigh 180
Vertical - Horizontal
Skills -
Extremely slow but can often out hustle kids 10-15 years younger than me in CF Pickup
0 for Lifetime 3 point shooter
I miss enough layups to help pad the rebounding stats of myself and teammates
Negative ball handling skills - I actually make my teammates worse at dribbling
I was a pretty bad offensive/defensive lineman in football and pretty bad wrestler as well, so that is a clue as to my hand eye coordination
I did lead my team in rebounding a few times during intramurals (brother)
Eligibility - My 5 1/2 years to get a 4 year degree from ISU probably used up all my clock.

6' wide body (think 1 person = double screens)
Been looking for a reason to drop weight (ie 40lbs over 40 years...since ISU)
Require cardio paddles on sideline, just in case
Know computers in and out, so I, too, have a bench occupation
Shot looks great, but doesn't go in as often as I'd like
I bring pedigree. Every soccer team, (including ISU) I've ever been on went from last place to to first. Ok, so basketball is different. I know that, but heck one can dream of bottom to top again.

If your blood is coming out gold, you should probably get that looked at.

Last played organizes ball in junior high. I led my 8th grade team in fouls, I’ll go hard in the paint coach!

Almost lost in 3 on 3 tournament to a girls team. I did go to state in the 100m haha

I have a 20 year old son who is actually a student, so more eligible than you guys.

He's 6'1" and 170 pounds. His senior year in high school, he averaged 6 points, 8 boards, and 5 assists a game on a terrible team. Was a captain, as kids who scored more than him were not exactly reliable or socially adept. Not exactly lighting it on fire but if he is needed to save ISU basketball, I'm sure he's all in.
8 boards a game at 6'1"? I'm impressed.

  • 29 years old
  • ISU grad
  • academic all-state
  • church league all-star
  • 6'3 185
  • 2 year starter for a central Iowa 2A high school
  • lead the conference in blocked shots and 3 point attempts (i stress attempts but not makes)
  • once scored 27 points on only 3 pointers
  • only shot 9 free throws all of high school because I avoided contact
  • drank a monster before every game (before we knew they were bad for us)
  • took a dump at halftime of every game for "good luck"
  • listened to Nelly in the locker room to get pumped up
  • won the 3 on 3 intramural tournament at ISU with Tyler Ellerman (before he walked on)
Pick me!

Let's see what any CFers' stats are to make this happen.

Me:
4 years eligibility.
Not an ISU student but I wish I would have gone there.
Late 90's Any Rural/Smalltown Iowa High School Conference honorable mention...I think twice.
Mid 30's but I run often enough to pretend I'm young.
40% from 3 senior year, really good for someone who's 6'10
Weight: 180-185 depending on week and/or beer consumed during ISU event.
Height: 5'8. So not 6'10.
Pretty good detassler IIRC.

I'll throw my hat in -

Think of a mid 50's 5'9" overweight Kenny Pratt who would probably have a heart attack the 2nd time up the court. I didn't play bball in high school - wrestler - but we played wrestle ball every Sunday and I can bring some sweet garbage play underneath, get away with it more than I should. I could be a real card on the bench, I have a great Eustachy imitation.

Only been dunked on once in my life, so my defense is solid.
Had a red-hot day shooting 3s a few years ago.
Energetic with good lungs, so I take the running up and down the court.
I have 5 free fouls to offer. There's nobody I can't foul.

Ooohhh, look at the big shot with his healthy lungs.

There was a walk-on during the Morgan/McDermott years that was at Lied so much we just called him Rec Boy. I don’t remember his name but he was about 6’4” with great hops for a white guy.

I was a decent rec player but once I played against an ISU walk on (Brate?) in a competitive setting and the way he played defense was above and beyond anything I’d ever seen.

Also, Greg Brunner dunked on me twice

You probably took a halftime dump because that Monster blew everything out of your system.
