Basketball Tournament Format

Whatever the format, it needs to be unique and like nothing we have ever seen. NBA level atmosphere in regards to entertainment around the event. So many cool things can come from the B12 marketing and branding our tournaments well. My hope is it creates a huge gap between us and everyone else. Let go global!
We had 8 of 10 teams vying for a tournament bid last year. With how strong this league will be are you really sure that there won’t be a year where the #13 team is on the bubble?
Yes. If we couldn't get 9 out of 10 we most certainly won't get 13 out of 16. Literally 0 chance of that ever happening.
So you want top schools to be exhausted for the NCAA tournament? Having double byes is because they earned it, avoid being burned out and ruining the chance at a NCAA title.
In basketball, I don't see any reason to not include everyone. The excitement comes from the feeling that anything can happen. Myself, I like the idea of no byes, but the top 4 seeds getting a day off, As to location, KC is about as central as you can get, but I could see there being some support for rotating it between Denver, KC and Dallas. I don't think it makes any sense to go all the way out to Vegas.
I think you go to 20 and protect no more than 3 home and homes. KU will get K-State and Arizona protected as a home and home every year. We’ll get K-State. (We should get KU but this coming season’s schedule has proven that the league doesn’t agree)
Even with 3 protected home and homes, in a 20 game schedule every school gets at least 2 home and home slots that the league/networks can play with annually. And certain home and homes have to be protected:
BYU-Utah
UA-ASU
Baylor-TCU
KU-KSU
KSU-ISU and WVU-Cincy should also be on the list. Then I expect Kansas-Arizona for the networks. Probably some more I’m missing right now.
Now, we must try to be inclusive to all of our new brethern. Even though they don't understand how big of a deal this has been in KC. Also, it may be good to expand our footprint a bit for recruiting. Is there a way to have the bottom four to eight teams play in another city on Monday and Tuesday. The winner(s) from early week games travel on Wednesday to Kansas City and play out the tournament from there.
The conference could take bids from rotating cities to make additional money. Only a team or two would need to travel on to KC, and they get a day off for travel to play the top seed(s). The balance of the conference are seeded accordingly. Plus, the new Big XII is on display all week. Here's how it might work with six teams playing early in the week at an alternate site...
Monday: 13,14,15 and 16 play each other
Tuesday: Winners play 11 and 12 seeds
Wednesday: The two winners travel to KC to meet the one and two seeds on Thursday, and in KC the games are 3vs10, 4vs9, 5vs8, and 6vs7.
The tournament plays out as usual from there.
I can see the men being used as a teaser addition for the womens tournament city, as I do not see KC as being willing or able to host 30 games between the two tournaments.
