Basketball Student Sections

So do we if you count the ones actually involved in the game. Sure they all jump around after a dunk and follow the poster at free throws. When you come back from a TV timeout and the first camera shot is the whole front row sitting down and texting on the phone......

ISU at #9 is my vote. The student section as i knew it in the late 90's and early 2000's is dead.
#1 KU
#2 OSU
#3 KSU

It's dead because we have sucked the past 4 years, not because of CA.

The problem is CA is that it has taken organic student support and turned it into a generic copy of arenas around the country and stifled the crowd as a whole and the energy of Hilton. Hilton Magic is unique because of the the support of 14K+ in an arena. Unforntunately, we have separated a portion of the crowd into CA and caused two main issues. First, CA is a member group and as a result is seperate and different from the rest of the arena. Cheers are no longer organic and driven by the entire fan base. Cheers are contrived and those not part of CA do not feel a part of the cheer and do not praticipate. Secondly, the passion of the student section is secluded to a specific area rather than throughout Hilton. The passion that students drive is no longer driving other fans, it is contained within a very specific area.

Hilton feels very different to me now than it did in years past. The crowd wants to get involved but feels reined in by what is happening in CA. I would much rather see a crowd which embraces whole crowd participatory things (the now illegal Hamms beer song, for example) but is truly driven by the energy of Hilton, not by some contrived CA cheer.

It could be argued that CA is a contributing factor though. The cyclone alley freethrow contest or build-a-burger contests don't really help with keeping the fans cheering.
Thats another thing that i would like to see go is all of the "entertainment" during breaks in play...it seems just like an nba game where its impossible to pay attention just directly to the game, like it should be....not the pump up the "pasta" or delta dental smile cam.......

i agree with everything above but I don't think the "entertainment" is going away because it's money for them..anyway I went to the kstate game and yeah when we got on those nice runs and got tied or within/ahead by 4 or so we stood up on D and just clapped..i'd rather have everyone going crazy than just having fairly organized clapping and standing

Texas has the worst basketball student section I've ever seen.

All the Texas schools are bad, but UT is pitiful.

You've apparently never seen Nebraska. I can't see any way Texas is worse than Nebraska. I'm not sure it's possible. Even we can win in the Devaney Center. :wideeyed:

I definitely feel ya on the SAA membership BS, but I ran right up to the court and yelled in a refs face and nobody said anything, also, I do hate the people that automatically get the first row and don't do anything.

What is really stopping the hardcore students from telling the CAC folk to **** off and just take those seats that they try to save for their buddies? Is there an actual rule, or is it just nobody wanting to have to be an ******* about it?

There's "Reserved" tags on the stupid seats.

Are these tags hard to get off the seats?

Seriously, that's a bunch of crap. If I can equate going to the student section at Hilton Coliseum to finding a church pew when somebody's kid is getting baptized, something has gone wrong. E-mail Freddy if you have to. This seems like an easy (i.e. won't **** off the AA by advocating the total abolition of their money maker) thing to fix. Start making him put his money where his mouth is regarding rebuilding the atmosphere.

CAC only reserves seats for themselves...other seats that have coats on them and stuff are from other kids that get in there early somehow and people assume its CAC

Yeah, but the rest of the front row has their jackets or them sitting in those seats for the buddies who arrive late.

Dave...that is completely untrue! Don't know what it was like when you were in school, but if you payed attention this year, you would realize that there were rarely seats saved by CAC members for friends that came late. Be a little observant will ya

It was like that 3-5 years ago. I wasn't a student this year so I wouldn't know. Maybe it has changed a little and they are starting to get better?

I think they are...

Regardless, any sort of seat saving is ridiculous in a student section. If CAC needs to be right up front to do their job, they should get their early enough to just get the seats. Make them earn that resume padding.
