BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Top 20 player interested in ISU

Holy crap that would be an amazing pickup for an incredibly stacked 2011 ISU B-ball team. This dude wold be the missing piece that would take us to the promise land.

It says he has interest in Illinois State, but not us.

Please, for the LOVE OF GOD, tell me rivals didn't list the wrong ISU.

I don't get his offer list on Rivals. I know those aren't always up to date, but the biggest offer he has listed is Baylor. You'd think the big names would be knocking down the doors to get this kid, unless there are some unknown issues.

I'm pretty sure I read he might have trouble qualifying but I could be wrong.

from the news on his rivals page:
Those familiar with basketball in the city of St. Louis always knew what B.J. Young was capable of. Young made an impact last summer for St. Louis Gameface on the AAU circuit, but still the lack of a high school resume had coaching shying away. Now after yet another huge start to the AAU circuit the calls are coming in, and Young's stock is continuing to soar.

Assume this is getting at the lack of high D1 offers. I had the same question when he is ranked 4th PG in his class.

I know I'm getting the cart way ahead of the horse here, but given what we have for 2011 does a 5 star top 20 point guard make us an elite 8 team?

There are obviously a lot of questions out there about how everything is going to come together, but IMO a solid PG is all that is missing from the puzzle for 2011.

5* players aren't always ready to make an immediate impact, especially at the PG position where a complete understanding of the game is essential.

I know Young is ranked higher, but just look at Chris Colvin. He made some amazing plays, but made some really big mistakes too. Point is that, especially at PG, sometimes the guys need a little time to develop.

Then again, some of them are John Wall......

I agree with that, but I think that is more true in offenses that are complex (e.g. McD offense).

If what FH wants to do can happen (going up tempo), that becomes less important. Given how much we have coming in at guard for 2011 and the caliber of players we have coming in I think we will be able to run. From FHs description he wants to run a pretty simple offense because you don't want your players to not know where they're supposed to be on the court or what they should be doing. Playing the PG spot still requires good judgement, but not necessarily tons of experience.

Here's hoping at least

5* players are frequently ready to make an impact. There were four 5* point guards last year and two are now in the NBA. There were five 5* point guards in 2008 and four are now in the NBA.
