Basketball Pet Peeves

1. The weave
2. Flopping
3. The Bonus and intentional fouling. Free throws are inherently boring; non shooting fouls should not result in free throws. Why exciting games are encouraged to turn into free throw contests is beyond me.

etending the arm is not a charge. a charge by definition is;
[h=3]What is a charge?[/h]An offensive foul that occurs when a player makes significant contact with a defender that has established position.

jumping in the air is not an established position. so no you cant.

This exact call was made on Curry the other day in the okc-warriors game and it was a great call. Besides being great bb, I was jealous of the good officiating in that game.

Biggest pet peeve is guys dribbling to gather control of the ball, picking it up after they have gained control and then taking off dribbling again. It happens dozens of times each game and never gets called. Traveling in general is the most useless call in the game, refs pick and choose when they want to call it.

When Jeff Locke doesn't put the laces out on a playoff-game-winning field goal attempt by Blair Walsh.

Oh wait, basketball pet peeves...

(jimlad strongly implied)

Letting the ball go out of bounds when you can easily grab it. Also, rolling the ball up the court in an attempt to save time (hint: by the time you bend over to pick it up and get up to full speed, you haven't saved any time compared to if you just do a normal inbounds pass to a player on the run).

1. Flying towards the basket out of control in an attempt to draw a foul (Frank Mason).

2. Rolling the ball down the court to not start the clock, it might make sense, but looks terrible.

3. Throwing the ball off of someone while flying out of bounds to gain possession. Also works, looks terrible.

4. Random ghost fouls.

Established legal guarding position doesn't mean feet are set. And yes being in a position prior to the offensive player and jumping vertically is establishing position. If that is the case and significant contact is made by the offense it should be an offensive foul. Fortunately officials have stopped calling defensive fouls on those plays.

Lay up or a dunk where touching occurs. Ridiculous to reward with a AND 1. If you cal a touch foul do it everywhere on the court. Rewarding touch fouls to the team that is behind because they are behind.

offensive foul. NOT A CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111

I didn't want to sully one of the Morris shoulder threads with this, but how he got injured is one of my pet peeves. When an offensive players ball fakes then jumps into a defensive player who is already in the air and can't do a damn thing about it, why is that a foul on the defensive guy? My other pet peeve is flopping. Both seem like weak plays. Maybe I'm just used to playground ball where that crap doesn't fly.

*end rant*

Or combine both of these things:

3 pt shooter fakes, defender jumps, shot is taken, contact is made after the shot so it had no effect on it, and the shooter falls back like got hit in the chest with a cannonball.

Jock jams.

Also wish the NCAA would do what the NBA does on timeouts and put the inbounder at half court. Makes for an exciting finish

My pet peeve is the kicked ball rule. To me it is good defense yet the rule rewards a bad pass. What, are they afraid a soccer game is going to break out and players are going to kick the ball all over the place? If the ball is kicked, play on. We have enough whistles. At least they don't reset the shot clock anymore.

Also... related, this reminded me..

Reviews that take three minutes, if it isn't obvious the call is wrong right away, let it stand and move on.
