I'm agreeing with you that he ignored the wrestling program.
So what did he tell the "decision makers" then? That he didn't break the law?
I still remember the year Iowa hired him. Was visiting my brother in Wyoming where Barta left the AD job there to take the Iowa job. One guy I talked to basically said good riddance, Iowa can have him as he was a horrible AD at the University of Wyoming. He was only AD there from 2003-2006 so says a lot in just 3 years some fans already were glad to see him go.

Hoiberg has said on record many times he loves ISU and JP and didn't leave because of any issues with JP but left because of the opportunity.
He told the decision makers what he wanted to do and what documentation he had to back up the decision. It was then up to others to decide if they wanted to push it to trial or settle.

Say what you want, but Barta's actions eventually led to costing the university millions. Barta is a trainwreck at best at his job. He caved into the PC police on a very harmless (actually complimentary) comment by Dolphin then quietly suspended him. Then he didn't even have the balls to face the media when he made the decision. He also had to give Fran a quiet extension last year to avoid backlash as Fran is mediocre at best. His PR skills are a nightmare (Iowa in general basically). What has he contributed to football? Ferentz was more or less a lifer at the time he arrived.

As for the topic, I've never met an objective Iowa fan that's happy with Barta, nor any other objective fan of any other nearby school praise his work.
So you're choosing to die on a hill from a situation that happened a decade ago? JP can't magically make up money or facilities. At that time, he had to make the best decision based on the information and resources he had. It happens in any business. I left my last job because my new employer was going to give me better benefits and more money. Nothing against my old employer, but its just the way the world works.

It didnt cost the University millions, it was paid for by the taxpayers.
